"TEPaul,
We both know the answer.
But, despite the criticism I believe that Rees has benefited from GCA.com."

SAGE!!!

Just one more question. Do you think Rees would admit to your belief?

I was told Rees did the work which created the back tee on #2.

The work is a seamless transition from #1 green and beautifully maintains the character of this green/tee complex.

Gene:

Thanks for posting that.

The evolution of the 1st green and the 2nd tee is somewhat of a mystery to me---and I doubt I'm alone. I've heard a lot of opinion from a lot of pretty fair sources.

If the back of the present green really was the original 2nd tee we should know about it because that arrangement is positively bizarre----in my opinion----certainly in our time and perhaps even in Macdonald's.

I don't think there is much doubt Karl Olsen built what used to be the back of the 1st green with that marvelous (and super intense) bowl.

I very much regret they took that out or minimized it in the last few years.

I agree with you that the first green and second tee arrangement, as it exists today is a good one---a very good one!

Furthermore, what NGLA has been doing with their golf course----the decisions they've made in the last few years, are impressive, perhaps even hallmark, and very well worth other clubs studying and thinking about emulating!!

Indeed. For example, taking out that beautiful corridor of trees separating The Bottle from The Double Plateau took balls of steel to present and then follow through. Was one of the strangest sites I'd ever seen when first done but the course is the better for it.

I just don't believe a bad decision or shoddy work has been done by Parker, any green chairman, Jack (Yes, THAT Jack), Karl, Bill S. or Rees in the twenty years I've followed the enhancements at NGLA.

The masterpiece continues to remain such.
