Noel,

Perhaps Yale had to fill its quota of Southpaws! ;D

Anthony;  I object vociferously to your description of Geoff's style.  What do you mean by "somewhat" psychotic?  An unnecessary modifier if I ever saw one!

Geoffrey Childs,

Without constructive criticism, progress is impossible.

Your efforts were, and continue to be ...... noble.

Sunday marked the 3rd Anniversary and the scans were clear.
Thanks for your help.

He remains on "double secret probation" for at least one more season and that bulge beneath those high-pulled 30 yr old socks...well, that's a whole 'nother matter! Let's all not forget that there is a still a loooong trail of courses that have his mug shot next to the starter's sheet with a "do not allow anywhere near the 1st tee."

Would you call Yale a bastion of Liberalism??  ;)

Pat

Now THAT is the best news I've heard in a while! PLEASE make a point to come up to play Yale this season to see all the improvements and please bring your sidekick TEPaul with you.  He still has not seen it.

Jim - My first Royal act will be to do my best to see that everyone has access to the kind of healthcare that treated Pat so well.

Maybe now I'll stop be awaken buy 2 a.m. phone calls from a delirious man mumbling over and over "why didn't Roger consult the aerial? Why didn't Roger consult the aerial? For the love of god there were hundreds of construction photos."

I'll do it this year, I promise. Maybe I'll bring Wayne or Pat to navigate. By the way is Yale the one in Cambridge, Mass or the one in Ithaca, New York, I just can't remember? The only one I really know is Harvard in New Haven, Conn.

Tom;  You really have to go.  Aside from the architecture, its worth the trip just to observe the warm interchanges between Geoff and his adoring fans on the first tee,

Dr. Evil,

Why don't you coordinate a Geoff Childs Appreciation Day and Golf Tournament and invite up all the trogoldytes who have failed to give Yale its due while rambling on infinitely about courses that couldn't hold Yale's shagbag? I'll be your bodyguard, well at least until the shooting starts.

Tony, et all

Let me describe a round with the Evil Dr. Childs

Lets say I tee off first... Geoff trundles to the tee like a cherub playing a blessed loon..  Then the nervousness sets in, his hands start to shake but he still has the intensity of an Einstein pre his relativity revelation.  The backswing begins.  One of two things happens, he either 1/2 swings and then hits a block which then results in a stern and self abusive--"OH GEOFFREY!!!!!" or he over swings and hits a pull hook which results in the dropping of the club with the disappointment of a MENSA candidate who cannot gain entrance into MIT.  Then a bellowing low groan of, "OH GEOFFREY!!! is released. He then turns to me and will ask what his swing looked like.

He'll then mope for about 30 seconds and then if playing in the company of good people will become a delightful companion to play with until the cycle begins again with his next shot.. His short game is quite good so he doesnt curse himself out a lot during those moments.  He'll wax poetic about golf design in the in between moments, curse Bush, talk about mutual friends and dis-likes..  Often we'll call Ran unsuccessfully to ask him about his opinion.. But one of the common threads through all of the say 100 rounds I've played with Dr. Childs is his longing to return to Yale.  Like MacArthur promising to return in WW II, he has now succeeded..

Oh Geoffrey!

Oh Noel!

You are talking about the last two injury plagued years of golfers elbow and left hip (sacroiliac joint) problems that took its toll on my full driver swing.  My iron play was generally quite fine to go with the short game.

Now that I am healthy again such that I can make a full turn with weight on my hip my driver play will be superb this coming year and my handicap will be playing too often with you.  Oh Noel!

Mark,

I think you are right about that and I know that The Country Club did the same on one of their holes, at least for the practice found of the U.S. Open.

Noel,

I would often get the post-round phone call.

It begins with, "I can't play golf anymore."

Followed by "I don't know where my irons are going."

Then onto, "The green complexes are ...., the par 3s are... etc."

Finally, "I have a lesson tomorrow, I hope I can work this out."

Are you divorcing me for the Yale member member??? Remember who has coaxed you into playing at Lawsonia and so many other venues last year?

I have the world's smallest violin for your ailments. What about mine!?  Besides, you grouch, remember when I hit the 15th at Fishers in two and then the deluge of rain caused us to wait 15 minutes to putt out and you sat there and put your hands on your hips in a miserly fashion echoing me to finish and 3 putt b/c you didnt have time and the ferry waited.  You were mean and ugly and even though I had 20 feet for eagle and indeed three putted, you snickered and laughed.. To quote the wicked witch of the west, I'll get you my pretty and your little dog too!!!!

Noel,

With all due respect, it was raining cats, dogs and assorted other animals while you were standing on the 15th green in two that day.

On the other hand Geoff, Noel did drag us out east on a lousy day that turned out well.  Go figure......

Congratulations on returning to Yale.  I know nothing about the situation that caused you to drop your membership, but I have a hard time thinking of many principles that could have kept me away from that course, even before the restoration work.  I guess I'm just too weak.
