Josie and I spent a week in Sicily (Taormina) last month and there is a great course nearby--designed by Donald Steele and run by (shall I say) locals.  The wine is better than in Tuscany, too.

Rich

As you stated to Patrick on the Wie thread, let this one go.  You are in over your head!

Ciao

Sean

Don't make the mistake of confusing humo(u)r with ignorance.  I know much more about Italy and wine than I am willing to let on here.  A little bit of knowledge can be a dangerous thing..... ;)

A man's job is to try to figure out what a woman is saying.

In this particular situation, you will pay the price for a missed 39th anniversary, take it from me, who asked his wife if it was ok to go to Ireland on a guy trip on our 36th anniversary, and she said "Yes, of course....have a great time"

Since I AM a woman, I am uniquely qualified to speak on this subject.

Gentlemen, to release the tension on the tether, simply discover what your wife wants as much as you want to play golf, then give it to her.

In my case, my delightful Armenian has conjured a trip for my mother and I to Ashland for the Shakespeare Festival.  I realize, of course, his ulterior motive was to enhance my week to the point I wouldn't realize he was gone on a golf-with-the-boys trip.  I rolled my eyes, grinned, and squealed with delight all at the same time.

Every woman wants something, and everyone likes to feel a wee bit spoiled  . . . Make her reservation first.

Then have a good time.

The wall is about 2.5 miles so is a nice brisk stroll.  Lucca is much more of a city, although on the small scale, than San Gimigano which I enjoyed but you wouldn't want to stay there.  Lucca is a great base for day trips as well.  An hour to Pisa, two hours to Siena, 75 minutes to Florence, only 90 minutes to the Cinque Terre.  Can't wait!

Bill, you have obviously been there a number of times, so it doesn't sound like you need any suggestions.  Friends of ours have a small house in the hills (mountains) just outside of Lucca and they offered it to us for a few weeks 3 years ago in June.  I can honestly say that it was one of our family's best vacations.  No golf, but we stayed a few days in the Cinque Terre and the experience is not to be missed.  Great little lunch spot in the fort just to the left of the ferry dock in Vernazza.

I have been invited to spend the last weekend of January at Mountain Lake  8)  and then figured out the Saturday will be my 39th anniversary.

 :o :o

You can see what kind of wife I'm dealing with.  She said, "Oh what the hell," so I'm going.

Do you suppose she really meant it?  ??? ::)

Oh yes indeed, haven't you ever seen "What about Raymond"?  They have many a episode about this so all of us thick headed men can figure out what our wives are really saying!!!

Henry, on my one trip to the Cinque Terre we stayed in Vernazza and had a great time, want to return.  We took the train from Florence to La Spezia and then a boat that stopped at all the little ports on the way north to Genoa - Portovenere, the other Cinque Terre towns, etc.  It was a great way to arrive, they briefly tied up to the rock at the end of the breakwater and put a brow out from the bow.   Great fun.  We went on to Milan after three days of complete relaxation for the flight home.

Bob Huntley,

Is this applicable to a dog?

My eight-year-old, very lovable Brittany has kept me from seeing a number of courses I wanted to this year.  Due to a number of changes in our lives, he has acquired a bad case of separation anxiety and become a bit destructive.  Now, I guess I "doubly" lament giving up the golfing opportunities and we are considering finding him a more suitable environment for him.  Any interest?

As long as I'm home taking care of Gib's sprogs, why not . . . ?  ;)

I can put on my Burkha and take him for a long walk down to the river . . .  :-*
