« on: November 14, 2006, 08:51:27 AM »
Reading the Golf Digest Top 19898652 Resorts list had a sidebar note By Pebble Beach noting Spyglass is planning a $7.5 mil renovation-drainage project.  Any more info from the treehouse???

The way Pebble budgets money, this could be nothing more than a few ditches.

The $7.5M renovation is largely complete.  The bulk of the work was improved drainage.  Here is the relevant info from the Pebble beach folks:

"With the $7.5 million renovation comes additional yardage—now 6,932 yards from the Championship tees as opposed to 6,810; major improvements to the drainage system, leading to improved playability and a quicker turnaround in the wet weather; and the planting of more than 700 trees. Pebble Beach Company has also reestablished the sand dunes on holes 2-5 by replacing the ice plant with indigenous plants. "

"Up next for Spyglass Hill is to upgrade the water reclamation plant, which will provide an improved water source. This, along with plans for adding an additional 800 trees, will be online in the next 18 months."

It's fascinating that the Oakmont's of this golf world are removing trees and these guys are planting them.  ::)

One would hope that the trees being planted are an attempt to stave off the losses from Pitch Cancre and are not in play.

I liked that iceplant, it was tough to play out of and looked nice. Can you not sit the entire course on a gravel raft for 7,500,000 USD? Where do they need new trees?

I once read where Pebble Beach spent $400,000 to replace the tree next to the green on the 18th hole.
