I don't know, Rhode Island is pretty bad. Newport National at the top. Triggs okay. Maybe two or three others okay. Everything else . . . crap.

hmmm.. Ohio has 88 counties, almost every one of them has 2-3 public access courses of value..  same for Michigan.. hard to figure how Maine can beat that..

Michigan is quite hilly up north and the U.P. has some decent sized mountains.  In addition, they have several courses on Lake Michigan or with good views of Lake Superior.

Ohio has some courses with some wild terrain in the south eastern part of the state that for the cost to play for the quality of the course can not be beat ($15 to $20 to walk).

I liked almost all of the courses I played there, but Michgian has a large variety of courses and varied terraines.

Kentucky!

From the flat river courses in the west, to the ridge and valley courses central, to the spectacular mountain courses east. Ocean views? From the mountains of Eastern Kentucky, you can see both the Atlantic and the Pacific, except for the poor eyes God gave humans [and perhaps the curvature of the Earth].

But greens fees never exceed $50, and all be a very few under $30. Cheap to stay anywhere, great natural hiking, fishing, and other outdoor sporting areas. And so stunning golf courses. Yep Kentucky!

That said; how could any State match Michigan? As was earlier stated, there is range from mountains to ridge and valley, to 'North Woods', to lakeside. And the Great Lakes coastals are as beautiful as any Ocean. And 850 public, most in the under $50 range. Plus some many 'Top' publics that the names are practically a role call. Michigan IS #1 public Heavan every Summer!

But try Kentucky for a happy surprise .......; then you won't have the same courses everyone else here has to talk about!

Did I mention the great views, huge trees, and million-dollar housing?
