How low is low... 59 at Outlaw
« on: October 01, 2006, 02:31:30 AM »
Just had to reflect on the quality of the play when one takes a look at the top mini-tour players...  Steve Marino shot a 59 today @ Outlaw at Desert Mountain during Round 3 of the Gateway Grey Goose Tour Championship :o A 59 :o From the tips, fast and firm (though softer than winter), tucked pins stimping around 12 ;) Play the course every week, and those that know can vouch that Outlaw from the tips is a TOUGH course... Makes you wonder about the 5 inches in between the ears when it comes to a tour card ??? Lipped out on 18 for the 59 ;D Absolutely amazing...

Nothing but congratulations to Steve Marino - incredible.

Was that 13 under Par?

If the Par was adjusted to the length of the actual drive (Par 5 Greens hit in 2 shots counts as a Par 4, Par 4 Greens reached in one shot counts as a Par 3) what would the adjusted Par of the course be.

There’s a 9-Hole course nearby with a Par of 31 where the best players occasionly play 18 Holes in 59 - definitly no comparison to Steve’s feat - but it still sounds good.

My 21 year old son doesn't play on tour, but shot 59 this summer on a par 72/6850 yd course in Ontario, Canada.  Witnessed by the club pro and 2 members who were playing with him. He broke the course record which was a 62 held by Tim Clarke, who now plays on the PGA tour.  My son's score is believed to be the lowest score in Canada on a championship length course. (researched by the golf writer of the London Free Press)  It is an amazing score and not seen too often, even by the pros! ;D  So a big congrats to Steve Marino!

How much of a difference in your opinion did the "slowness" of the turf have to do with the score ?

In winter -- the speed of the fairways and the surrounding edges can be quite quick.

I can only imagine the qualities of the green played a major role in the score produced.

Lori,

Congratulations to your son; what an outstanding round that was.    Does he play in national/international amateur events?  Does your son have aspirations to turn professional?
