PGA Grand Slam of Golf to Las Vegas

The Las Vegas Review Journal reports today that the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, the year end event matching the winners of the four majors, will be moving to the yet uncompleted Jack Nicklaus course at the Coyote Springs development.  The paper reports the event will be held there 2007-2009.  The story leads with the possibility that Tiger may return to compete in Vegas for the first time since he won tghe LVI in 1997....

USGA also gave an event to Erin Hills

Coyote Springs will need to sell a lot houses out there. TV exposure sure helps.

Yes, it is about an hour north of town in the middle of  nowhere.  Plans apparently call for construction of ten courses when complete.

There was some guy that came onto the this site a few months ago that worked for the development and was so excited that Nicklaus was building 8 golf courses there.  When we asked a few questions and came down on him for choosing Nicklaus he screamed like a little girl and ran away saying he would never look at this web site again.

The web site is interesting, its one of the largest developments in the country but in the middle of the desert, far away from anything.   The 2 guys behind it are huge developers with very big money so it doesn't surprise me they could buy a tournament to showcase this development.

Since the PGA is a partner in the development of Coyote Springs and also owns the PGA Grand Slam of Golf, this deal makes sense.

by the time the development is finished it wont be as far out as it seems.  I forgot how many 10s of thousands of acres it is on.

I have been to Coyote Springs, not far from Mesquite.  I don't see this golf tournament being finalized in that area.  I don't care who has lots of money or who has rights to what.  You are going to tell me these golf professionals are going to fly into Las Vegas and drive or have someone drive them to Coyote Springs.  There is indeed a Mesquite Airport, but I don't see many flying into it.

What about the fans.  They probably don't want to stay in Mesquite.  Don't get me wrong, Mesquite has some fun golf courses, but for the casino's and gaming, nothing special.  Unless you live in some place like Cedar City, Utah.  The fans aren't going to want to drive from Vegas to this tournament.  Who comes to Vegas and wants to rent a car?  That is why most come here, they have a great time, and don't have to drive, public transportation or personal drivers.

I believe Pulte is one of the home builders on this project.

What kind of odds do you have on that?  Are all the fans from Cedar City, Utah.  This is just my opinion, I would definitely
be going to Hawaii than Coyote Springs.

This place is going to be like the villages that's always being advertised during golf..

it'll have it's own schools, government, etc.
