The late PGA Tour pro Jeff Julian used to whistle "Mission in the Rain" by the Jerry Garcia band while going through his pre-putt routine.  He said the slow, lilting tempo of the song provided the perfect timing for his stroke.

Amen brother.

Stavros - shivas here is the world's expert on Love's Theme.  He's the one who clued me into the golf theme NOT being Benson's "Breezin" (which is a very cool song, btw).

Love's Theme IS golf.

Is Love's Theme the one the BBC still uses?

It goes:
Oooweeeee,
doo, doo, doo, doo, doo, doodoo-oo,
doodoo-do-oo, doo, doo, doo, dooooo,
BAH, BAH, BAH,
Dun,dun,dun,dun,dun,dun,dun,dun,dun,duh,
doo-oo-o--ee-oo-oo....

Honest!

Sounds a bit ELP-ish?

Back on the (cough) old days when I played poorly enough to earn the occasional "8," I would always respond with a few bars of the XTC song "Snowman."

Why oh why,
Does she treat me like a snowman?

Augh !
"After all, we're not communists."

shivas - oh man that is a crackup - I got it from his description also...

Martin, you must confirm if the song is the one you were thinking of.  Go to that sample I just posted.

Thanks, Gents.

My Work Computer won't let me download the track. Soup Nazis!
I'll head off home soon and try from there...!

If it is the one, then it is EVERY Masters and British Open I've ever watched on the Beeb. VERY evocative.

Aargh!
It's not it! (Maybe).
Turns out though that I know this track from many's a teenage gropefest.
It could be that the section they're playing on the (God Bless 'em!) Yahoo music site is another section of the track I'm thinking of. It's certainly got the same feel. Does the theme develop in some different ways?

Where's Mr Rowlinson when we need him???
