Paul,

PFC is a great old club in the rollling North Hills of Pittsburgh (Fox Chapel).  Interesting elevation changes throughout the course ( I even think there used to be an elevator on one hole, although I don"t recall which, and it may not be there anymore).  Greens are usually in perfect condition and very fast.  When the amateur was at Oakmont a couple years ago, PFC was used for the stroke play rounds.

Come on, Shiv, that tee shot on #1 is a Matt Ward special! :)

Of the holes coming in, I'm surprised you'd single out 16. 17 struck me as not quite as good as the rest of 12-18.

And PFC is not in the North Hills. Those Fox Chapel folks are having heart attacks thinking someone might think they live the the North Hills.

That's interesting. From Shivas's description of PFC I wouldn't have recognized it at all. Man, this just shows how subjective golf architecture really is. PFC is a bit hard to describe. Is it a great golf course? I don't know about that but it's pretty unique for a lot of reasons. From a tournament players persepctive it's surely not simple---eg a lot can go both right and wrong on that course. I played a couple of state amateurs there and the first one was when Rocco Mediate had a five shot lead going into the last nine and Bubby Marucci caught him and beat him. That was in a 72 hole tournament where Marucci made a 7 on the first hole of the tournament. Rocco Mediate was definitely no slouch. The course could probably be described as "parkland" but it's pretty unique. Right across the street from Fox Chapel.
