I need some educating.

No High School competition in the UK?

For golf, this is generally true, alas--even (particularly?) in Scotland.  Very little competition even at the University (college) level.  In fact, overall (with the exception of private (public)) schools, high school sports programmes are meagre and in rapid decline, even for the more important sports (soccer, rugby, cricket).  Its all about "saving" money.  Hah! :'(

Hmmm My high school course was a really poor 9 hole Muni that made playing off hard pan and avoiding utility wires a regular part of golf. I was thankful to be a Country Club boy and having an option for a better conditioned course . The one thing I have not heard mentioned was the impact of the pros on high school and junior golf. The late John Myers was at that sad excuse for a Muni and gave his life to teaching and giving of himself to junior golfers. He never charged us anything to practice or for lessons and would let any child work around the proshop or shag balls to help work off equipment and ball purchases. You never even came close to paying for them and he did not care. His got his pleasure from watching us grow as young men and in our love for the game of golf. He made it to the highest level within his peer group of golf teaching professionals in America. I am still envious, none the less, of getting to play on some the courses mentioned here as a high school golfer.

Riverview HS in Oakmont, PA plays a similarly named course.

Our area has some good ones.

Abington HS plays at Huntingdon Valley (C-Nine!), along with Upper Moreland HS.

Lower Moreland plays Philmont.

CB East plays Lookaway, CB West plays Doylestown.

CR North plays Jericho National.

Springfield HS plays Sandy Run and Plymouth Whitemarsh plays Whitemarsh Valley.

Holy Ghost Prep plays Torresdale/Frankford.

I believe the Portsmouth Abbey School plays at Carnegie Abbey.  I'm not sure which course Brunswick Academy in Greenwich, CT, plays, but I believe it's pretty nice.

CORRECTION: If I remeber correctly, they play at Stanwich.  Not too shabby.  Unfortunately, our AD is not a golfer and therefore not too cognisant of juicy possible matches we could play.

I went to high school in West L.A. and our home course was Brentwood CC which is pretty darn good-  but our chief rival was Palisades H.S. and their home course was Riviera.  We got to play there once a year-  awesome.

Wayne - small world - I mentioned also my school being the grateful recipient of annual away matches against Pacific Palisades at Riviera.  As I recall we also played at Brentwood at least once.... hmmm... what school did you go to?

Kyle,

Are you sure about Plymouth-Whitemarsh playing Whitemarsh Valley?  I think LaSalle plays Whitemarsh Valley not PW.  When I was at PW we played NLE Eagle Lodge which is now ACE, I had heard PW was playing on ACE.

I know Abington Friends played the C-Nine at HVCCC.  I think my brother actually had the C-Nine record there at one point(can't remember the score).
