Ma Grannies's Hielan' Hame...
« on: September 19, 2005, 01:35:52 PM »
La Nancy and I have just returned from an all-too-brief visit to the lovely Perthshire Highlands. We played the James Braid 'Taymouth Castle' a couple of times and I was simply knocked out by the scenic splendour of its surroundings.

The Course itself however, doesn't really match up to the Bens and Glens. The front nine is played over some excellent terrain but the back nine is a major disappointment running up and down the old Deer Park at the front of the Big Hoose.

Speaking of which, the Hoose and Golf Course are in the midst of conversion into Scotland's first, I believe, 6-Star Resort. Luckily, we were able to play for a mere £16.50 each (put maybe a couple of zeros onto that after next year).

The course is being extended by (varying reports) either 800 or 1000 yards. I heard also talk of 60 - 70 chalets being built in the grounds. Didn't get a chance to see any masterplans but I can guess where they might be located!

Please excuse the quality of the pics but I forgot my digicam and had to resort to the old camera phone...

The Big Hoose

Hole 1 - with a sneaky stream at the front of the green for the mean golfer who doesn't buy the Stroke Saver...

Fantastic chasm of a hazard fronting the 2nd Green

Lovely diagonal pond on the par 3 #4

One of the finest views in Scottish Golf?

Worth repeating...

Yummy downhill Par 4 #8

and the view from the tee the other way..

Beautiful setting but boring Parkland golf of the worst kind

Fun second shot to the Par 4 12th

and a bit of Braid chocolate dropping..

Wonder what it'll look like this time next year...?

Fat

Are they actually doing anything out there?  This "6****** Resort" plan has been around for at least 5 years by my recollection.  It is a beautiful site, but I'm not so sure about being able to get even a 1* course out of the land, unless they buy the inn at the shore of the loch and bulldoze it down!  IKs the big hoose habitable these days?

What thinketh ye?

Uncle Dicky,
thar thar moosik soonds aboot like a reely baad weddin' band!! Gie me the authentick pipes evry time!

FB(V!),
the hoose is being worked on as we speak (if the sounds of hammering and sawing are to be believed!) You can just make out the Heras Fencing in the first picture.
The existing Taymouth Castle Golf Club are VERY unsure of their future. The charming, nay, Rustic!, wee clubhouse and changing 'huts' will no doubt be considered an eyesore by the incoming management...

Cowley Sama,
it rather surprises me that you don't already own one of these fine devices...
