7th Green

While my picture doesn't do it justice, the "E" shaped greens first 2 fingers of bunkers, are evident. The entire green, is but a few paces wide, and perhaps 60-70 yards deep.

In the semi-background is the start of the tumbling fairway of the fourth hole. No doubt, the observant will take mental notes for the upcoming fantastic seventh.

Surely, these two holes are going to be quite the one-two punch, and hopefully for a very long-time.

Hey, Adam, thanks for the pictures.  I won't get to see them for another three weeks.  I love how the background worked out on #7.  [The furthest dune in the background might be half a mile back there.]

There are a lot of good holes out there but I'm betting those two will be the most loved of the bunch, partly because they are both short -- a 350-yard par 4 and a 525-yard par 5.  Some people will try to overpower them and succeed, many more will try and fail, and some will just putter along and make birdie anyway.

With all due respect for Cary Lichtenstein, this was the prettiest canvas I have ever seen.

The detail work by Tom's crew is stellar.

One of the amazing aspects, was the feeling that one of the worlds Oceans, was just over the next ridge.

I left feeling I had seen the future direction of golf design, noit just a renasance (sp?)

THANK YOU

The one shot 5th (Thanks Tom)

Note: The rightside bunker work is phenominal the way it ties into the natural.

Let me illustrate just how great this place is.

This nobody from Chicago, had the great and remarkable pleasure of meeting a good chunk of the Bunker Hill Boys, three days prior to touring just the front nine here, in Holyoke.
Imagine the high I was on, after meeting Ben and Bill? I was just as high (if not more) driving away from meeting only half of this course.

Ran Morrissett- While Ben Dewar was directly involved, I could not help but think that it is you who is ultimately responsible for my recent elations. Thank You

Not sure if this bunker is fully completed, but if it isn't, this is it's penultimate stage.

Adam:

Your third photo was of the par-3 fifth hole; the picture after that (with the sun in your eyes) is the par-3 third.  I'm not even sure what the last one is, perhaps the greenside bunker at two, looking toward the third tee?

Glad you enjoyed seeing our entry for the #1 course in Colorado.  But now, stop showing everyone the pictures, and make them go see for themselves!

Wow, What a dilema!

Craig, I've never been a member of a private club, but if I do join this one (and i'm seriously considering it) I would be honored to have you to be my guest.

Ok, Tom, My compromise will be to post only one more Pic. And hopefully it will be food for thought for further discussions, since this hole will likely go down in history as one of the games greatest.

Here is the tee shot from the 7th.

If one looks closely at the sand blowout farthest to the left, is actually the same bunker as in the first picture on this thread, that is where the flag is.

The nastiness on the inside leg of the fairway (straight away in picture) is approx. a 260 yard carry. I expect many a  golfer will be thinking of a three, while on this tee. And then happy with a 5 when walking off the green.

;D Hey guys, thanks for the GREAT photos... I'm making my way back to Desert Mountain for the winter, and am planning on spending a couple days back in CO... How do you get to Ballyneal from the freeway is my first question, and do they mind having drop in visitors is my second... I remember driving past the exit earlier this summer, and was tempted but for a tee time at Wildhorse before league began that night:-)

Ballyneal must be special - Slag's back!  :o

He knows a good (great) thing when he sees it and has beamed down to express his approval.

Adam,

Don't forget the little people, especially if Ballyneal is not reciprocal at first.

Tom and Co.

Great work.  (Sorry everyone, I made that bold statement from just looking at photos).  Cannot wait to play.

comptngolf, the Ballyneal Web site (www.ballyneal.com) has a map. The site also has contact info. I'm sure Rupert O'Neal would be happy to have you visit.

Adam, those are great pictures. They actually look better than the site does. I did not find the same drama at Ballyneal that the Sand Hills area has.

Tiger- That's an interesting distinction, and one that I''m sure is bound to compare the two courses for eternity. What I found was that the long gently rolling hills, found near Mullen, are almost hypnotic. While Ballyneal has those longer rolls too, it has the added "Chop Dunes" which add to the variety and allows for the more severe contours, ala the TOC's greens. I know that chop dunes "look" has been a personal preference for a very long time, I just never knew what it was called.

Here's the best way I can describe how Ballyneal made me feel.

There are specific places that I've experienced which have a certain soulful feel about them. i.e the 12th at Pacific Grove, The 8th and 9th at CPC, among others. Well, I felt that way with nearly every step at Ballyneal.

From my zero exposure, to the linksland of GB&I, I will just assume the differences between the two(SH+ Ballyneal) will be similar to the differences in the tastes of those who prefer a  Ballybunion, to a Cruden Bay, to a Painswick and Dornoch + the like.  Ballyneal appears to be a perfect fit for this pallete. So much movement going on, lots to consider startegywise  and the ability to use the terrain. If I searched every inch of America I wonder if there would be another that comes as close to my heart, the way my walk around Ballyneal's frontnine has. And I hear the back is even better, HA
