Tommy,

So, based on your last statement, if you're at a bar and Pamela Anderson walks up, says 'Hi, cutie' and 'would you buy me a glass of that wonderful Cakebread Cellars Chardonnay', you would, in the spirit of Miles, get the f**k out of there ;D?

By the way, for my money, Terra blows away Mustards any day of the week.  And, instead of trying to get into  the French Laundry, sacrifice two Zagat points, drive into San Francisco, eat the best Vietnamese food of all time at The Slanted Door, and save yourself enough money for a round of golf almost anywhere (except for Pebble, of course).

David,
You of all people should have the knowledge that when in Heraldsberg, your in "Napa." It's more "IN" to say Napa.

"Hey, lets go to Heraldsberg this weekend! ! ! ! "

Or

"Hey Lets go hang out in Napa this weekend!"

[/quote]

It's Healdsberg, for those scoring at home.

Sonoma Golf Club is great.  Willie Watson designed it, right?  I like it a lot.  Nice walk, nice holes.

Mayacama gets great reviews.  Very high-end private club.

Silverado is cool.  Windsor's municipal course is also a fine course.

Tommy,

The French Laundry is a fabulous dining experience... once or twice... thereafter one gets a wee bit tired of sitting in one place for four hours. Bouchon is one of my favorite spots, great service, Keller prepared food and wines that don't bust the wallet.

As for Terra I agree with you on the food. Our waiter was a surly sod  who got the sort of tip he deserved.

Redanman,
Mustards is an excellent choice also that I forgot. Especially for lunch. My sister Lisa, Michael W. and I ate there two days straight!

I equate drinking chardonnay to the same as drinking Boones Farm Strawberry Hill. Eh Gads! Chardonnay is for women who want to look trendy and fashionable with a wine glass in their hand. I want the real meat of that grape--skin and all, and then aged in oak. You know, when it comes out of the cask in so many different colors of red and purple possible.

Morristown, NJ : What's your favorite restaurant in the United States?

Tim Zagat: I usually refuse to answer this question but if I was pushed on it, I think probably right now it is French Laundry in Napa, California. However, I would prefer to go on the basis of what thousands of people say rather than what I think. That's the basis of our guides. Fortunately, it turns out that French Laundry is the highest-rated restaurant in our 2002 San Francisco survey so it seems like I am in good company.

Tommy,

Any love for the leaner, not brutally oaky, white burgundys of France? I don't drink chardonay from Cali, the vanilla/oak sweetness is enough to make me puke . . .but I've found a bunch of inexpensive white burgundys that are a real pleasure.

Ted,
I actually do like Chardonnay's, any juice for that matter. I like the grassy buttery tasting ones, like La Creama and Groth. I once had a killer 78' Chateau Montelena that made me spin my head ala Linda Blair that I consider one of my top five favorite wines I've ever had.

As far as the French, I love that juice too. But for my palate, I'm a Californian through and through! ;)

First off, its "Bistro Jeanty"........Not Jeanette!!!!!!!

Second, why would anyone, that knows anything about the true "Great Wine Makers and Producers" in the Napa area, go to any of these "Tourist-trap" wineries that produce upwrds of 40 or 50  THOUSAND CASES of watered down and widely distributed slop when if you are "truly in the know" and on some of the "Premier Mailing Lists" you can skip places like the French Laundry, let alone the 500-600 bucks it will cost you, and enjoy an intimate "private dinner in the private wine caves" of a guy like Ric Forman, David Abreu, or even Bill Harlan".....seems like a much better use of time and energy to me......and a whole lot more memorable........for better fun still, come out for the "Napa Wine Auction" and bid upwards of $30,000 for a special barrell of juice from a top producer like Heidi Barrett, Helen Turley, or Bob Foley!!!

Cheers.........

To accompany the wine, I also suggest a few selections from the Vella Cheese Company in Sonoma.  Fabulous handmade Italian cheeses along with various jacks and cheddars.

I nice picnic with some Vella cheese, french bread, aged salami and  a nice pinot would be a wonderful afternoon.
