Notice how Joe Schome is introduced to the reader as being "from the conservative XYZ Foundation".  When the reader sees that, it sends a signal to his brain that Joe Schmoe has an axe to grind and has an agenda, so his views are to be discounted.  Notice how the left wing opinion gets no such qualification, as if to say that her opinion is not agenda-driven and is more generally acceptable (since the trusted writer didn't feel it newsworthy to qualify it).  Also notice how Patricia gets to state the truth as the final word.

That's because Liberals generally get it right while Conservatives generally get it wrong.

Rigth on, counselor; a more erudite (on paper at least) JakaB, and just as provocative.

Is the Good Doctor with his well stated principles of GCA formulaic?

For those who compare gca to the fine arts, does the unmistakeable styles of many of the masters make them any less?  Would it be better if you could not tell a Monet from an El Greco?  Some of these guys painted basically the same theme over and over.  Were they decried as being formulaic?

Give me an archie who does great work on a consistent basis, and I could care less if his courses have similar themes.  I'll get my diversity by playing Dye, Raynor, Rees Jones, Tillie, Nickalus, Thomas, Doak, Ross, Engh, MacKenzie.

Jason, I'm glad that by the  ;), you recognize how silly that is.

Actually I was trying to indicate that my somewhat OT post was meant in good spirit, even though it may be rejected by some or many here.

While I agree with your point about the media spin, which is negatively impacting all of American culture, not just politics, I do think Liberals get in right and Conservatives get it wrong, I'd say on about a 90%/10% scale.

That being said, your point on spin is important and I think relates well to much of the discussions on this Board, and  this one in particular.  I don't see formulaic as necessarily negative though I do think principled may make more sense.

I think your criticism of the NYT is a bit rose colored considering that Fox News is about as biased as it gets.  I think the Fox broadcasters used "flip-flop" about a million times when speaking of Kerry.  Check out a documentary film called "Out Foxed" and marvel at the internal memos that Fox News distributed setting its agenda.

I'm not trying to refure your point of media spin, it's valid, I'm just pointing out that it's not all favoring the left.

Hey Shivas -

What are you talking about?

What is "the media"?

How about this post -

The golf courses have fairways that are too narrow. Also the pace of play at the golf courses is too slow and they cost too much.
Metaphor is social and shares the table with the objects it intertwines and the attitudes it reconciles. Opinion, like the Michelin inspector, dines alone. - Adam Gopnik, The Table Comes First
