So its execution, not architecture, in the end, in the pro psyche..

Why should anyone really care where the pros play then and what venue/gca is host?

"First time a PGA Tour Event hosted on a Fazio design", though the AMex Championship last October was held on his Crabapple course near Atlanta by the top players in the world.  Not technically a Tour event, but they feature the tournament on their web site.

Scott,
If this was the case, then Pelican Hill would have been the first. It was the first home of the Amex Championship.

I would imagine it was pretty hard getting people around that course to watch the players, given the green to tee distance as well as the rather side hill-like nature of the course. I could also imagine a heart attack or two during those events there.

I feel like the editor of Quotable Quotes[/i] from Reader's Digest:

"This is my job and I get paid a lot of money to do it my way,"  Que up Sinatra please ...

"This is not a first-time thing for me," Fazio said. "I know that's the issue that everybody keeps coming up with, but after 30 years of being involved with U.S. Opens and PGA Championships and the Ryder Cup at PGA National... I feel that way almost every year at Augusta National.[/i]

One could only assume that Mr. Clifford Roberts, upon his death in 1976, bequeathed the control of AGNC to Mr. Fazio.

"... and I liked the guy ..."

Tommy -
How many heart attacks do they register every year at Kapalua?

Very good point.

That also wasn't so much a bash at Fazio as it was the Eco areas on the course(s).  I do in fact like Pelican Hill (North Course), I think its a good golf course and much of it very original for Fazio. I just think it could have been much better because of all of the situations at hand. It took an awful long time to get those courses permitted.

The Fazio course at Mirasol is an excellent golf course and is a challenge for players at every level.

Almost every hole gives the player a risk reward choice from the tee. The fairway bunkers are very much in play.

The par fives are reachable with two good shots but one bad one will lead to a bogey or worse. And just getting near the green on the par fives guarantees nothing.

Every hole challenges the player's iron play because a missed green anywhere but dead short leaves a challenging (and sometimes very very challenging) up and in.

I doubt that the Tour can set the course up as easy as they want to.

I think Peli Hill and Kapalua would be great places to watch golf. All the natural slopes create great vantages
