On Tuesday, January 13 at 7pm, George Bahto will be at Golf House in Far Hills, N.J. to present a lecture on Charles Blair Macdonald and discuss "The Evangelist of Golf."  Copies of the book will be available.

Come and spend an evening at the USGA discussing the legacy of one of the great figures in American golf.

For more information please contact the USGA (908) 234-2300 x1475

I look forward to seeing everyone there.

David;

Perhaps we will try to make it as we may be in the NYC vicinity early that day. Is there anything wild and crazy that you know of going on down in the "happening" little village of Far Hills, NJ after the lecture? Like maybe a really good after hours bar or something!?

Could somebody videotape this please?

I have a feeling "all things GCA" will be valuable someday. And seeing a documentary with a dry cleaner turned gca aficionado, should be priceless.

Congrats George and remember "no starch", they have plenty.

I would love to have a copy of the tape. I had the privilege of meeting George last year and could talk to him for hours. Very insightful and funny guy.

Thanks in advance to all who attend.  It should be a fun night.

TEPaul: there are a number of local watering holes available for post-lecture discussion.  I'd be happy to point you in the right direction.

George will present a slide show and lecture, followed by a Q & A.  The show should last for an hour or more.

We'll try to get started promptly at 7 p.m.

David,

I'll hopefully be with Tom Paul that day and maybe we can make it to the lecture on our way back from NYC.  I look forward to seeing you again.  Please check your GCA.com messages as I sent you one the other day.
Best,
Wayne

David,

As I live nearby, I might try to make it as well and hope to join anyone looking for that nearby watering hole.

David -

Also, many here would be interested in any written materials handed out at to meeting. If it is possible to post them here it would be most appreciated.

Thanks. I regret not being able to get there.

Bob

P.S. More than a video of George's talk, I would like a video of the meeting later that night at the local watering hole. ;)

BobC:

Up here above the old Mason Dixon Line we call them watering spots not watering holes!   ;)

PS;

Me and the GMGC pro are still wrasslin' with the Nebuloni rep but we expect to get the better of her soon. It's a bit like what WinstonC said about the proper way to go about taking Mussolini and the Italians in WW2. One must approach them through that soft underbelly of the "Boot"!

Tom -

Though no one does green leather like the Italians, please don't worry about the Nebuloni girl. She might show you more of the soft Italian underbelly than you ought to see.

As someone who grew up in Georgia, I know what a watering hole looks like. I've seen farm animals and southerners drinking at them. But I'm having trouble imagining what a watering "spot" looks like. Is that something akin to an irrigation head? :)

Bob

P.S. Seriously, I hope you or Wayne will report back on George's talk.  - And any shenanigans afterwards.

Sounds like a great show.

David, perhaps you could write an article in Golf Journal summarizing the evening for those of us who can't make?  :)

Times like this make me wish I lived in the NE.

Is there a way to record this and provide a replay through the internet?  Possibly through the USGA website?

Mr. Bahto- break a leg.  And if appropriate, give them hell re: the ball issue.  I would think that NGLA has been greatly affected by 300 yard average drives.

I had the pleasure in being in attendance for the tour de force performance from George Bahto last night at Golf House.

From the major, minor to the smallest of details -- George will find any info that is related to the topic at hand.

Well done indeed! ;)

Yes, great stuff.  That CB Mac was quite a fellow, some of the pics of him just ooze will and arrogance!

Sorry to miss that talk. Wayne and I would've come but at the last minute we had to zip back to Philadelphia. I like what Paul Turner said about Macdonald's arrogance. Last night while at GMGC one of our members who belongs to NGLA was telling a few C.B stories like about that man-sized statue of C.B in NGLA's clubhouse. Apparently C.B commissioned it on his own and then billed the members for it.

And another member recommended that a windmill be built on the hill and amazingly C.B actually agreed with him--had it built immediately and then billed that member for it!!

You guys know what physiognamy means? Can't you just look at any photo of C.B, particularly when he got older and tell that that was not a man you'd want to fool with?
