Twenty years ago, Upstate SC was tough to beat in this category.
(Pickens CC has been reduced to nine holes and Anderson Country Club-reportedly a Bendelow-is no longer).

"Affordable" courses are still available. None of them world-beaters but each with two/three holes that are worth the greens fee.

Wyncote GC in Oxford, PA. Rates are dynamic, usually $70 -$110.

Since its inception in 1993, Wyncote Golf Club has received National Recognition for being one of the finest golf courses in the country. The “Heathlands” style course was designed by award-winning architect Brian Ault and rewards golfers with the finest playing conditions available. Bentgrass covers the course from the tees to the greens. Wyncote also offers four different tee placements, encouraging every age and skill level. One of the best in PA.

I agree with all of that, but I don't think "few have heard of" Wyncote.  For that, somewhat close by, I'd nominate The Club at Shannondell in Audubon.  Their scorecard tips out at 5990 yards.  I appreciate that they haven't concerned themselves with finding an extra ten or eleven yards.  Good fun and an easy walk.

Probably because it is out of the way, but Kankakee Elks about an hour south of Chicago off I-57. Probably 30-40 bucks for an unrestored (sadly) Langford & Moreau.
