Pinehurst No. 6 to host first USGA Adaptive Open in July 2022
« on: December 04, 2021, 03:45:45 AM »
What a great feel good story. Well done USGA, overdue and hope the R&A follows suit. These populations don't get a lot to look forward to unfortunately, so just as when the Olympics started the Paralympic Games, golf following suit is wonderful.

The U.S. Adaptive Open Championship will be contested over 54 holes of stroke play and is open to men and women with either a physical, sensory or intellectual impairment.

Happy and saddened at the same time. Why #6?
The articles I've read/seen make no mention of competitors visiting/practicing/enjoying the beauty of the "main campus" of PCC.

Are the homes that surround #6 available for rent? Is #6 a more accessible (cart paths, etc.) venue than some of the other, hillier layouts? I am certain that there is an answer. I would doubt that anyone (for sincerity or for simple PR) would play an event on a course that doesn't offer positives.

Why No.6?

It may be the most suitable course at Pinehurst for Golfers with a Disability ie access all around the course and into bunkers up to tees etc. From the pics the tees and bunkers look flattish.

The USGA have their reasons as well - it would be interesting to see however from the bigger picture its great that they are finally doing this it has been long time coming.
