Not true, S2!

I did see Out Door in April of 2018 until the beginning of the back nine when a mean thunderstorm moved in.

What I saw was real good, and I hope to see the back nine soon.

Here is the front nine in photos:

Joe,

It's not listed on Joe Logan's site.

When I photo-document all 18 holes, it will go up in the Bausch Collection at Logan's MyPhillyGolf.com site.   ;D

It looks like golf in York County has suffered:

Since the golf boom ended about 15 years ago, Copper Beech Golf Club, formerly known as Red Lion Country Club, and Hawk Lake Golf Club, formerly known as Yorktowne Golf Club, have closed in York County, as has Gettysburg Country Club in Adams County. A couple other York County courses (Little Creek and Bridgewater) that used to be 18-hole facilities now feature just nine holes.

Like many places around the country, golf in York County was overbuilt during the boom and is now scaling back.

Joe, let's plan to see Out Door this summer, if possible.

Outdoor is worth a play but not much more. Very flat piece of land. Outdoor and CC of York is a good day out. - Mike - I still owe you a day out to York I think. Outdoor does not compare.

Recently Cirba and I played Out Door CC with the Board of Directors and the head professional.  A fun day on this 1959 Ed Ault designed course that has had some help from Andrew Green.

Reassessment Time: I've played both CC of York and Out Door CC recently I was mistaken in my assessment from last year:

"Outdoor is worth a play but not much more. Very flat piece of land. Outdoor and CC of York is a good day out." (Bad grammar on my point duly noted)

The land is flat in that there is not much elevation change from high point to low point, but there is a good amount of rolling undulation that the course makes good use of. Admittedly, there is a bit of visual sameness across the property that makes one feel that the course is more repetitious than the holes really are.

Upon the recent plays I now feel that Out Door compares much more favorably to CC of York than I did before. Stylistically I am biased towards CC of York's Ross greens. They are more in your face in terms of thinking to oneself that something specific was a really cool feature. Out Door's greens are certainly more modern in terms of having less dominant slope and more internal contour defining the different pinning areas.

The land is more severe at CC of York leading to more changes in elevation. Out Door's flatter rolling ground means that the architecture is a little more subtle and dependent on bunkering to define strategy and to penalize sloppy play. It is well done however and makes for a challenge that is similarly interesting and worth some study in terms of how to make good use of lesser elevation changes across a flattish property.

All in all I'd still recommend CC of York for someone travelling any distance to play. The architectural high points are certainly higher (5's and 15's greens in particular). However, the severe land makes for a few shots that leave me a little cold (the run from 13-15 and 18). Out Door on the other hand is more consistent with no real wow moments, but also no real dud holes that make me scratch my head. The golf at both is good, and the difference is not nearly as large as the architectural provenance's and aesthetics had led me to believe.

York is one of those places I have been meaning to play for twenty years. I just don't get there. This summer I will make it happen.

Do those who've played it have any insight into what Andrew Green did to what Ed Ault had left?
