Oakmont is the TR of Pa.

ANGC is the TR of Georgia...

Sorry Kalen, but in my sophomoric opinion yours is the most inaccurate post I've read on this site in the pat 20 years.

All the best, nonetheless.

Bogey

Bogey,

As Dan Kelly would say, I forgot the emoticons.   ;D   :P

I thought it was obvious it was tongue-in-cheek...my bad!  ;)

Is this thread the Tobacco Road of Golf Club Atlas threads? ;D

Ha, it did light up 4 pages of replies in about 48 hours so you may have called it.

I finally played Tobacco Road in April.  I found the Fossil Trace comparison a little difficult.  I have not so pleasant memories of that site since it was the location of an undergraduate geology field session many years prior to a golf course being built on it.  The existing course is good and unique but Tobacco Road is so much better.  I probably can't get past the college experience.  It used to be a mining site for the Coors family in their Ceramics business.

I enjoy this post on many levels. Could you please expand on the Fossil Trace college experience?

Devil’s Paintbrush is the TR of Ontario, or maybe even Canada.

So ... I guess it follows that JK is the TR of posters... strong like/dislike factors, plays easier than he puts on, transcends thoughts with hidden rationality.

Oregon Golf Club is the TR of OR.

What about...

Old Mac is the Tobacco Road of Oregon.

And what is the TR of California?

PGA West is the Tobacco Road of California
Trump National, Palos Verdes is the Tobacco Road of California

Pacific Grove is the Tobacco Road of California. Always recommended, rarely visited.

I could get a spreadsheet going if we're gonna start taking votes!

P.S.  Kavanaugh, got a kick out of the Pacific Grove nominee.  Well played!  ;D

Those may be better choices.  Old Mac is pretty wild, but it is clearly uses the time tested templates now popular for a century.

So far, I think Tetherow may be the best choice.  I've walked around it, but haven't played it.  The greens are really wild.  All evidence indicates that it is a very difficult course to score on, which does not fit the Tobacco Road story.  Hard to come up with analogous courses that are strange, but fun and not that hard to score on if you know where to go.

Trump National PV is not the TR of CA... it's just not very good.

Ironically close to this site and John's heart I'd nominate Stone Eagle as the TR of CA. And I mean that as a compliment to both.

Stone Eagle offers more creative and unique golf in the desert than any other course. Stunning and and at times deceptive visuals with great risk/reward offered. It's as out of the box as anything in the state and an excellent execution in pushing the region's design to its limits.

Ahh, yes, how could we forget Tetherow. Wild golf course with crazy greens. I have not played it but heard lots of stories. A perfect love it or hate it golf course for Oregon. Retail golfers may love or hate the template holes at Old Mac. Links lovers are enthralled with template holes.

I could have been clearer, but I meant to indicate this was my favorite choice so far.  Kalen's unbelievable call on reply #48.
