Here's something you don't see everyday

How many times have you seen two Norwegian men tied for first?

Not to thread-jack, but over on the LPGA another interesting quirk is taking place: Two weeks in a row the fourth round final group will include a "Korda" and a "Ko," but neither one tomorrow is the same one as last week.

Nelly/Lydia last week in Hawaii; Jessica/Jin-young tomorrow at Wilshire.

Actually this is a thread that begs to be somewhat jacked.

Tommy -

I got to watch Viktor Hovland play a foursomes match in the 2015 Jacques Leglise Trophy matches, which were held at Royal Dornoch. The matches are a Walker Cup style competition between boys under-18 from GBI and Continental Europe. In addition to 2 players from Norway, the Euro team included players from Denmark, Iceland, France, Sweden Germany and Italy.

Hovland won his 2 singles matches. Playing with fellow Norwegian Kristoffer Reitan, they won one foursomes match and halved the other. Watching Hovland play I had a feeling he would become a very, very good player.

I was also scorekeeper in a singles match won by Guido Migliozzi. His play impressed me as well. He has gone on to win a couple lessor tournaments on the European Tour.

Watching those matches it was clear Europe was producing young players more than capable of competing with players from GB&I.

Remember, the Molinari brothers won the World Cup for Italy in 2009. I don't think anyone saw that coming.

Hovland has a perpetual smile. Coming from Norwegian heritage on both sides of my family and marrying a Norwegian, I find it uplifting and wonderful.

I refereed one of Holland’s matches at the NCAAs in Stillwater a few years ago.  A great kid who joked around a bit while playing great.  And I’ve got him in my golf fantasy league this week so I’m hoping he can keep it up.

I had dinner with the two Norwegians [and our client] during the week of the Houston Open.  They are both very humble about their skills.

I'm glad you got to meet them and know their public persona is true in private as well.

My wife was a walking scorer for Hovland in Stillwater that year and said good things about him as well.

Of course, having done that for three Men's and one Women's NCAA, I have to say I found pretty much all the college players a pleasure to be around.
Over time, the guy in the ideal position derives an advantage, and delivering him further  advantage is not worth making the rest of the players suffer at the expense of fun, variety, and ultimately cost -- Jeff Warne, 12-08-2010
