Can't believe I didn't get there on my one and only trip to Dornoch, but I didn't know about it at the time. I am sure most that make the trek to Dornoch are ignorant of its existence. Great deal on overseas membership.

When I was at Dornoch in 1982, I specifically asked a couple of members if I should go see Brora, too, and they said no, don't bother.  I think they just wanted my eight pounds to play another round at Dornoch instead!

I am glad that Brora is thriving with international support, but in truth there must be dozens or maybe even hundreds of good golf courses struggling to stay afloat, and it is disturbing to see them all have to make videos to compete with each other for charity help.  It's kind of like the Go Fund Me campaigns in America to help people pay for medical expenses they can't afford:  we ought to be better than that.

I see the annual sub is £428. Feels on the low side for a good golf course, but I guess the club judge that members can’t bear a higher fee. Is that representative for the sort of course/community Brora is? Should they be charging more?

When the Brora crowdfunding publicity began earlier in the year I thought along these lines too. Now don’t get me wrong, I’m a Brora fan, I have friends from the area who I knew well before I knew of the delights of the course, but I am thinking about the likes of nearby and also thoroughly delightful Tain and Golspie (and the likes of Portmahomac and Bonar Bridge too) who also need visitors and money.
Guess whoever shouts first and loudest, and maybe has more photogenic views and cattle and sheep on the course, gets heard the most?
Crackingly nice area of the world though and with a whole bunch of delightful golf in really quite a small area. If you go there play more than just RDGC and BGC though.

Brora's annual sub is in line with nearby clubs Golspie and Tain.

I don't think any of those 3 clubs are charging a joining fee.

P.S.  Tain has a video of its own: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1BF9JUq7-D8

Every hole at Golspie has a video:

I have played dozens of courses overseas and Brora ranks among the top.

I think because of its simplicity yet fundamentally receptive structure creating subtle yet satisfying shot values it is indeed a special track. One literally strolls right along the beach without the distraction of dunes or barrier vegetation. The scale of everything fits so well together. Just sublime

I'd like to say that the Tain video was charmingly wobbly, but the charm wore off after a couple of holes.  Either it was very windy that day, or they need a new pilot  :D

Lots to like about the course at Tain. Not sure it gets the love it deserves. Maybe folks head to the course under the impression it's going to be a links but in many ways it's more of a heathland that happens to touch a wide estuary at one point.

As an aside, this Ave-G chap has done quite a few videos like this one and they'll all decently produced. Does some equipment ones too.
