... Toughest Kind of Day to Play at WF
« on: September 20, 2020, 10:59:37 AM »

I just got back from Westchester on an early morning errand... it's going to be a tough day on these golfers.

Despite the ubiquitous debates, only 3 guys are under par... just like always

Despite 380 yard drives and wedges from 170, whatever the design can't take up, the pressure of what it means takes over... just like always.

But today, with cool, dry conditions and a good 10-15mph/20 gust wind out of the NE, the scores might be enormous... #s 1, 2, 4, 6 and 11, 12, 14 and 15 play DEAD into that... while its just as disruptive with the speed of this grass all over... on 5, 7, 8, 9, 16, 17 and 18.

The wind is still supposed to be mostly up at the darker, closing hours of the tournament, so I'm not positive the leaders will get any slack, just when it gets the most stressful.

agreed.

That said, take similar conditions at Pebble(which they did not have last year), make 6 a par 4 and you get the identical outcome...
September and October great times(other than daylight) for these events due to the likeliehood of such conditions.
Of course you could say exactly the same about Erin Hills ...

Might just be someone gets hot and posts an early score at par or 1 under and it holds up for the day. I'm rooting for Bryson, I think he moves the needle and is exciting to watch.
Live Jupiter, Fl, was  4 handicap, played top 100 US, top 75 World. Great memories, no longer play, 4 back surgeries. I don't miss a lot of things about golf, life is simpler with out it. I miss my 60 degree wedge shots, don't miss nasty weather, icing, back spasms. Last course I played was Augusta

The opening hole at WFW is a straight up junk punch. Only number 1 at Oakmont jumps out at me as a tougher start for courses in the U.S. Open rota.
