Tony what are you suggesting in your last sentence? Where would their preferences lie?

Adrian, surely very unlikely that Portrush gets it again after five years eg 2024 (or even 2025)? That would be to give them same status as TOC and relegate all others. I struggle to see the R&A preferring Portrush in that way, no matter the success of 2019.

If I had to guess R&A will want to revert to normal 5 and 0 pattern, but that does not answer the question/dilemma around 2025. Much politicking lies ahead!

I heard Portrush was pencilled for 2024 and 2029 or 2031. There was a three times quickly deal done as long as the first one worked. The Portrush Open was very successful financially and they gave a lot of local shops £5k each to tidy it all up! We know they love RSG again a good money maker, they don't like Turnberry and Lytham seems to have fallen in Hoylakes' favour.

Who knows, there might even be a new one in there for 2030.

Greetings Philip,  I know nothing about St A's except that businesses are planning for an Open every 5 years. Adrian's suggestions of using the years 2 and 7 making every Open there an anniversary date, makes sense.

Adrian, I have friends who visited Lytham last year and members were insistent they were off the rota, as the R&A believe they haven't sufficient extra space necessary for merchandise, media etc. You are correct that the agreed with Stormont plan, is for a quick return to Portrush. In NI last year the belief was for 2024 but things are different now.

2023 is the Centenary anniversary for Troon and much was made of that by the R&A, when they announced in Feb 19.
Let's make GCA grate again!
