Would be nice to see Mike Young in Michigan
« on: November 30, 2018, 09:52:07 AM »
I love podcasts, while on the road or in equipment I can't get enough of them.  I don't always agree with what is being said but I love the different opinions and ideas you hear on them.  I particularly enjoy Derek Duncan and his feed the ball podcast.  I can't get enough of Derek's podcast in May with Mike Young; I have listened to it 4-5 times now.  Mike is so spot on with his description of golf and his model for success in the business.  I have never meet Mike and have never played one of his courses but just listening to him is enough for me to say: it would be nice to have him jump from the clay in the south to the sand in the north and add his touch to the great portfolio of courses in our State of Michigan.

Craig,I love Michigan and come up that way a good bit.  Would love to catch up sometime.  Building in sand would be fun but that chance doesn't come along often down here.  But might soon.  I'm basically a grumpy old white dude and don't have the patience to try and convince some guy to let me build a golf course in some place where they have never heard of me.  I just like doing my thing when the chance comes and figuring out something else the rest of the time.  That's why I have never gone after rework down this way that much.  Have zero desire to build billy bunkers for some private club and have half the people like it and half hate it.  But if something falls in my lap in the sand would be great.Come down here and see us..we can talk some trash....Tom comes this way and "The Judge" Lavin keeps saying he will.  I think he is scared. ;D ;D

Being a Superintendent for 36 holes and a father of 3 boys has me tied up; but at some point I would love to get down South to see what you have going on Mike Young...... If your in Michigan for the Summer as Tom says you have an open invite in Marquette, would love to talk the business over a round or two.

I had the privilege of meeting Mike's son, also part of the family biz (Mike was away from the course that day) and he was the most gracious host we could have requested. Mike and I give each other sh!t politically on social media, but I have much respect for him. His golf course was a joy to play, and is a place I could play every day and smile. I would never tire of inventing shots to navigate his fairways. Great golf family.
