I'll post some pictures of Urbana as soon as I can process them off my phone.
Urbana is a really interesting mix of old and new style architecture; clearly, as the 9's were built about 70 years apart. While some prefer a design consistency, I thought it worked well here. The P.B. Dye holes are nothing to sneeze at. One of the better short par 4's I've played at the 5th. One of the toughest par 3's you'll ever play at the 7th.
I also was amazed by the land. You drive for miles across flat farm land, then all the sudden find this undulating property that is the golf course. Josh had warned me the course was a tough walk, and he wasn't kidding; especially on the back 9, where you're going up and down hills most of the time. Looking to the land off-property on the front 9, and it's all flat again. The Dye's really did luck out on their choice of property. The 9th is clearly manufactured, but still a fun hole.
I do feel pretty badly about the 1st hole. Josh and I were both playing Titleist 2's; but I was playing a Pro-V1 and he a Pro-V1x. We both played the wrong ball and didn't realize it until the green. Josh was immediately one down. So much for my non-competing marker status. Despite that, it was a great morning for golf and a fantastic match to watch.
