Why buy 18 when you can get 27.

Well , I'm hearing the same  thing with a fall closing date scheduled . However , my sources also thought  Wildwood was pretty much a done deal , as did many Wildwood CC members and staff. So?

Sand Barrens makes sense. Plenty of land , close to Stone Harbor /Avalon home to many Union League members .
Atlantic City CC might have been the place in another era , but the nexus of power has shifted south . Stone Harbor GC might have made some sense , but there are some complications with development rights and lots of water that  is now regulated under NJ law. Wildwood seemed an excellent fit , but the course is built on a tight piece of ground , with again , water and regulatory impacts involved in any redo . It would be  expensive to get fill
for renovation to Wildwood if that's integral to the plan.

Will keep my ears open , but fool me once .....,

I always thought SB got hurt in ratings and such when they opened the third 9. I think they are all pretty good, but they blend together and it is hard to distinguish. With a Shore location, maybe turn one of the 9's into a Family 9, and then have the BIG course.

It worked at Maidstone!

That would be perfect.  Was never a fan of 27 either. Which hole is #1.

Mike Sweeney,

I like your thinking.   The 27 hole thing rarely makes sense these days if it all just blends together.

I loved the original 18.  Once they built the additional 9 it lost some luster.  The holes are good but blend together and nothing stands out anymore.  Don't get me wrong, it is a fun course regardless of the combination of 9s, just seemed odd at 27.  During a round back in 97/98 when I heard the idea of the additional 9, I pitched the idea to build a really wild 9 or 12 hole par 3 course to the brothers that built the club.  That obviously did not happen but I still think it would have set the place apart.

I bet they make it a good 18 and put some nice cottages on the property.
We have a pool and a pond, the pond would be good for you.

No cottages yet.  27 will remain as members tend to play golf in morning and have beach time in the afternoon. Fry/Straka are there now.

Can't wait to see how this turns out.  I thought Sand Barrens was pretty solid before they made the acquisition...

Agreed. Only wish this potential reimagining of the routing could have been done while it was still public. Could easily have been turned into one of the best public courses in the Northeast.

“Over the past 20 years, the trees and vegetation have considerably grown up. We have removed several thousand trees to date and that number continues to increase. Additionally, there were many cost-cutting approaches taken over the years, including abandoning tees, narrowing fairways, eliminating approaches and making greens smaller. These all need to be rectified.”
