It's great to hear about the star power this event attracts. Can't imaging how cool it would be to have your name up in the locker room.

Tim Rosaforte this morning on GC reported that Larry Fitzgerald was made a member. Really?

I thought the story was they turned away Jack Nicklaus for membership but somehow Fitz is OK?  What am I missing?

Thanks, Rob

Bob Ford and Pittsburgh connection?

Great 7 links to Kevin Bacon, but great digging to find the old Oakmont pro and Fitz Pitt connection.

No offense against Fitz -- he seems like a nice guy and good golfer.  Helped win me a fantasy football title one year.

But, damn, that's a sweet deal.

And, yes, good for him.  Probably will retire soon, so rock and roll.

Robert, I presume Larry Fitzgerald is the football player? He's not a pro golfer? If so that's what you're missing. Seminole, from what I've always been told, has a membership policy that only allows for one pro (tour player I believe) to be a member and that is Ray Floyd. Anyway that's what I've heard. Best.

One of my buddies was in his group at the Waste Management pro-am this year... my buddy wrote me after the round and said Fitz " was one of the coolest, most humble guys you'll ever meet".

We will know we have made progress when great clubs stop issuing press releases when they admit an African American as a member. How many white guys did Rosaforte mention in his report? This is an unfair invasion of Fitz's privacy.

What about Rory’s dad? Gerry McIlroy is paired with him under the member slot.

Gerry McIlroy spends most of his day at Seminole Golf Club in Florida, not far from where his son and daughter-in-law live. It's only fitting that the McIlroys are playing the opening three rounds at Spyglass Hill, Monterey Peninsula and Pebble Beach with Phil Mickelson. Lefty's partner is Jimmy Dunne, the club president at Seminole. No need for introductions.

I didn't see Rosaforte's report, but did he report it pointing to an African American or because Fitzgerald is an NFL star?  If it is the latter, then no big deal welcome to being a celebrity, if the former then I totally agree. Clubs absolutely shouldn't be limited by race, religion, etc.  However, the genesis of many were just that, easy example is looking at the LA private clubs.  Hillcrest and Brentwood were built for the Jewish population that wasn't allowed in LACC or Wilshire CC, and single women weren't admitted until the 70's I think. For how liberal California is, they started from a much less inclusive view in terms of their golf and social clubs.  Progress we hope means not having to make news when you become more diverse, because you already are.
