Thanks much, David. An excellent article (even if Ran is identified as "the author" of the Confidential Guide!). It was very nice to read quality writing about a quality golf course, and it was inspiring in many ways - not least because it confirms that if you create something special it will get recognized.

Thanks David,
Fond memories of Dixie Cup play with hickories. A brilliant design concept, wish there were more everywhere.

On about hickories again...something about spending too much time in the Pinehurst area must warp your guys brains ha ha...

Still can't imagine how make golf even harder equates to a longer happier life. Whenever I watch someone try and struggle around a course with hickories I'm very thankful of new technology.

I will definitely make it to Sweetens one day and I definitely won't be playing there with hickories.

Great press for Rob, Ari, Patrick, and everyone involved with Sweetens. Love the line about how it's ranked above a few major championship venues, that should get the attention of the golf masses.

As for hickory difficulty, 3 of my 4 lowest rounds ever were recorded with hickories.

Great article, however whoops:

“If you leave Sweetens Cove smiling, don’t panic: golf is supposed to be fun,” wrote Ran Morrissett, the author of “The Confidential Guide to Golf Courses.”
Don't play too much golf. Two rounds a day are plenty.

Congrats to my friends Tad King and Rob Collins. Tenacious, hard working men who deserve this.

Surely they will print a correction
"Golf is happiness. It's intoxication w/o the hangover; stimulation w/o the pills. It's price is high yet its rewards are richer. Some say its a boys pastime but it builds men. It cleanses the mind/rejuvenates the body. It is these things and many more for those of us who truly love it." M.Norman

I think golf would be better served if they more projects were like Sweeten Cove or Audubon Park in New Orleans.  I would like to see more 12 hole courses - 6 holes out and 6 holes back.

Great stuff.  Reminds me of SkyRidge in Sequim, WA (one of my favs).  I wish more Washington folks would go play it.

Absolutely.

Most people I talk to find 18 holes a bit much most of the time. 12 holes would make for a perfectly good round of of golf and take no more than 2.5 hours.

Re Sweetens Cove;  why is there no review in Courses by Country?
