I agree with Richard. A few very bland holes but the rest should offer enough to compensate. Looking at the thread again I remember it being much easier on the eye than my snaps show, with the mountains one one side and sea on the other - like Pebble Beach after Seaton Carew ;)

On its potential as a BUDA course I cannot really comment as the only BUDAs I have attended were Painswick and Hoylake. But in their favour neither Seascale nor Silloth is prohibitively expensive. Both are compact making 36 holes a day possible and both clubs are used to visiting parties playing 36 a day. For those who want to extend their visit to the Lancashire or Ayrshire coasts distances are comfortable. Unfortunately there is not a ferry service from Silloth to Southerness, one of my favourite golf courses.

I know of only two other links courses in Cumbria, Furness and 10-hole Dunnerholme. There are several rugged, hilly courses with a good fun content, such as Brampton, Appleby, Penrith and Windermere. Grange over Sands is a shortish MacKenzie course, but I don't know how much of MacKenzie's work survives.

It did occur to me that there might be a charter boat in Workington or somewhere like that - normally used for fishing trips - that one might hire to get a party of golfers from Silloth to Southerness. Really only a short distance by water....

Mark,

Brampton, Appleby and Penrith are all good fun but I would guess are about an hour, give or take, from Silloth. Workington and Maryport are similiar standard but closer. Carlisle however is also closer and would definitely be my pick of the courses other than Silloth.

Thank you for educating me on another fine course I need to play. I have never known this course before today.  The pics are terrific, well done!!

Seems that a famous architect did leave his mark on Seascale... in my diggings around I've unearthed some fairly compelling clippings that detail a significant rebuild of the course in 1932 at the hands of one H. S. Colt  :)

That's certainly interesting. I'm guessing you'll share more info later (here or in print)?

Cheers.  I was convinced a well known archie rolled through town, though I didn't know who.  Seascale's touch of class is quite evident.
