« on: May 26, 2017, 01:49:24 PM »
My wife had this painting commissioned for my birthday. It is based off this image. What hole is it?

could be BD 7 green from the back tee of PD 8?

Or BD 11 green from the turf nursery?

A very lovely gift indeed, Emile! It's the first painting I've seen that tries to capture the sub conscious (or is it the supra-conscious) experience of playing such a golf hole, in such a setting.

I'm not sure what hole it is, but that's a beautiful painting.

I haven't seen the Preserve. Could it be on the Preserve?

Did the photographer lie on the ground to take the shot?

It looks like #6 on Bandon Preserve taken from #17 fairway on Bandon Dunes. What do you think?

Or #9 on Preserve from #17 BD fairway?

This is from our very own Joe Bentham, a caddie at Bandon says, "It's 7 at the preserve looking back onto the green from around the front of 8 green."

I was working along similar lines. It's the no. 7 pin at Preserve.

But I believe it was taken from the no. 5 tee, or thereabouts. The view is definitely directed north/northeast.

I recognize the tree center frame. That's the tree that stands above the no. 3 green. It's visible from no.1:

In the reference image the tree is almost exactly backward. From there I looked for the trees on frame left and right. The only green that qualifies is no. 7 and features mounds behind the green with no traps, just as seen in the picture:

The painting is great—captures the energy of the setting!

Cheers,
Christian

It is a late round par three at Bandon Trails. 16 maybe. I forget which hole number but remember that view.
