4. Scotland, primarily TOC, North Berwick and Dornoch

6. Cabot and that general area
7. London area courses


I don't expect to achieve anything beyond 1, but I won't lose hope.

There are six courses in the UK that I haven't yet played that'll I be really peeved if I don't manage to play at least once.

Elsewhere, in no particular order -
USA - too many courses to list (and many/most probably out of my price bracket!)
Iceland and (separate trip) Lofoten Isles - golf plus whales plus scenery
Melbourne sandbelt plus Tasmania plus NZ - golf combined with a Lions rugby tour
South Africa - golf plus a Lions tour plus sharks breaching!
Argentina, Uruguay and Chile - golf plus just maybe, they've been before, although a long time ago, combined with a future Lions tour plus a Boca Juniors vs River Plate football match!
There's always hope.

We've tacked differently, but in a similar spirit, Bogey.


My trips consist of quickies and weekies. In 2015, I did a quickie with Buddy A to Erie, PA, to see a Ross and a Bendelow. In 2016, I did a weekie with Buddy B to Providence, RI, to see a few Ross, a Raynor, and an RTJ1. In 2018, Streamsong is on tap during February break from school. 2017 will hopefully be a weekie with both Buddy A and Buddy B to Philadelphia. If things work out, we will try a West-of-Boston weekie in summer of 2018, to meet up with Brad Tufts for a local's perspective.


As important to me as playing the courses might be, having a chance to cover them is also a thrill. I'd love to get to LA for Walker Cup 2017 and SoFla for Walker Cup 2021, but the odds are long. I'm targeting 2018 Shinnecock Hills US Open for a chance to play on the way out and the way back, but end-of-school might interfere.

Sean, it's funny but my list of one-offs has shortened considerably over the past few years - down to maybe a dozen or so. I'll skip the privates, lest I appear to be trolling for access, but my list includes Yale, Pinehurst #2 (I'm also curious about Pinehurst #1), The Loop and the 13 hole par three course at Bandon Dunes.  Oh, and Painswick.

I look forward to your contributions to this site in 2017.

Yes, I could cut my list well down based on reality and location, but I always figured anytime someone had Augusta on the list then it was to be considered a well and truly dream list.  Using a reality check and places I want to visit:

A general Boston seaboard Mass trip would always be of interest to me: Myopia, Essex, Whitsinville & Eastward Ho!

Never been to California so a trip to the San Franciso area would be wonderful: California GC, CPC & Pasatiempo

Playing in Michigan is never a hardship: The Loop could be backed up with any number of courses that interest me

Would love to do island hopping and take in Askernish, Machrie & Isle of Harris

For #12...I must see Pulborough

I doubt I can even pull this off in 10 years!

Here's my partial hit list of places I'd like to see for Volumes 4 and 5 of The Confidential Guide, broken down alphabetically into three categories.  I've only got 2-3 years to see them, so it's likely I will never get to a few.  Honestly, I don't know how to prioritize the three categories; part of me is most interested to see the "Outposts," but some of them are going to be very hard to get to if not somewhat dangerous.  The list:

This year was pretty busy w/ a job change, one in college and the other in the looking mode. I did get to see Streamsong Red (but need to get back to see the Blue & in the future the Black) and Cuscowilla. The one I had the most interest in seeing was Sweetens Cove and it did not disappoint. Can't wait to go back again.


A few weeks back I started to think about what I wanted to see in the future. Not just in '17 but beyond. I love Bogey's 10 year horizon, but who can plan that well!! My goal is to see courses of architectural interest and not just belt notches. I need to get to Bandon (only saw the original the first year it was opened) and next fall looks promising. A few others I hope to see are the Schoolhouse 9, Lawsonia & Whistling Straits, The Loop & Forrest Dunes. Others on the list but I think these are reasonable to get to.


No immediate plans for Ireland, Scotland & England. Those dreams will have to wait for now. So many courses, so little time!!
