I would rather go there!
I don't understand why they didn't develop around the course?
Cheers

Wow, that's a blast from the past.  It took me a couple of minutes to recognize it, although that's the best part of the course that is left.  From the looks of "progress" they might as well have kept it open a while longer.

The woods around the still-existing holes are all wetlands and would be impossible to develop.

6 weeks before it closed, Scott Weersing and I got in 54 holes over 2 days.  My first taste of destination golf.

I played it only once, the year it opened. I must admit I wasn't ready for it. It was so subtle that I think I missed stuff I should have seen. I'd like to have played it again.

Man that is brutal to see.  I worked their for 2 years.  Had the pleasure of hosting 2 outings for GCA guys as well as meeting many others.  The stretch from 12 to 15 was all world.  Damn I miss that place!!!

Weeks!?

We played the day before it closed...

...and had a frost delay.

I did remember the frost delay...which I thought was absurd.  I guess my memory was a bit off on the time frame.  The course was still in great shape, I remember that.

Sad to say I discovered it only the year before it closed.  Wonderful track.  Our nearest Doak course in DC.  Next nearest would be in VA Beach I believe.

Ugh, you should see it now...the 7th hole is all townhouses now.  There's a big ugly entrance with huge columns and archways and it's just bad.  Every time my Dad and I drive by the course we end up talking about how much we miss it.
