I know many courses here in the Mid-Atlantic and Northeast have fought Bermudagrass the last few years.  My question to the turfgrass experts---is this deep freeze long enough and/or cold enough to assist in controlling the proliferation of bermuda we have seen the last 4-5 years due to hot summers and mild winters?

We experimented with Pylex last year and the results appeared to be encouraging.  It definitely put a dent in the bermuda, enough so the fescue and bluegrass in our roughs could take over.  We even tried some in a few fairway areas where the bermuda had sprung up, and while our bentgrass was injured to a certain degree, it remained strong enough to outlast the bermuda.

We've been trying for several years to control this issue, specifically on our bunker banks where it had really gotten out of control.

Time will tell but IMO, yes especially if you have weakened it through chemicals and use the Word proliferation and not eradication. Many times itīs the one-two punch that leads to the knock out. I have witnessed and also personally experienced acres and acres of dead bermuda from winters in Texas, even at top clubs, with top Superintendents and big budgets like Colonial Country Club. So, the odds are most likely shifting in your favor but you will be hard to find anyone that will go out on a limb at this point in time and say definetly YES or NO!
