Looks like you could be missing Millport, a lovely scenic island course. 18 holes designed in 1888 by members and altered by Braid in 1912. Also just discovered they built a second course that was abandoned in 1924.

A local once went to great lengths to convince me that Ayshire had both some of the most expensive Links courses in GB&I and some of the best value.  He spoke sense about the well known courses of Scotland so I've been curious to know more about these particular secondary courses.

I have played Barrassie, Prestwick St Nicks and Largs.  A long time ago, in the case of the first two, though!

In June I will be riding the first three stages of this year's Tour de France route for charity.  630km (394 miles) in three days, with 7800m (25,600 feet) of climbing for the William Wates Memorial Trust (https://rideleloop.org/the-charity/) which supports underprivileged young people.

Have to dash but off the top of my head;

TURNBERRY - Fernie/Weir/Colt/MacKenzie Ross (depending on whether you want to count the earlier iterations)
ROYAL TROON - Strath/Fernie/Dr MacKenzie/Braid/Ebert (sorry can't recall who did the changes in the 1960's.)
PRESTWICK - Morris/Dr MacKenzie/Braid/possibly Simpson
WESTERN GAILES - Fernie (I think)/Hugh McMillan (long term greenkeeper)/Willie Park
TURNBERRY KINTYRE - Donald Steel redesigned/extended existing course that I think might have been Braid ?
GLASGOW GAILES - Tulloch/Park submitted seperate designs and committee did a pick and mix. Tulloch, who was the greenkeeper, carried out the work.
TROON PORTLAND - Fernie/altered later by Fernie/ Dr MacKenzie (virtually new course)
KILMARNOCK BARASSIE - I think Moon did a redesign of an earlier course. Don't know but suspect Fernie (who else !) might have had a hand in original layout.
IRVINE - not sure who laid this out originally but Hilton carried out a major redesign before WW1 but members didn't like it and club reverted back to way it was before. Every chance Braid might have paid a visit at some point but suspect too early for him to have laid out original course but could very well be wrong.
PRESTWICK ST NICH'S - Hunter & Allen (?)
LARGS - David Adams
PRESTWICK ST CUTHBERT - is this not the club that had to move to make way for Prestwick Airport and therefore course wouldn't be from 1899.
BRUNSTON CASTLE - this is indeed a Donald Steel although I think I'm right in saying Tom MacKenzie had a big hand in the design. Also GCA'er and golf course construction man David Nelson cut his teeth on this course.
ARDEER - course relocated, much later than 1880.
TROON DARLEY - Fernie
TROON LOCHGREEN - Fernie

I've played West Kilbride several times over the past 3-4 years and rate it very highly.  It is a pure links course with many interesting holes, several very challenging ones and a few quirky ones to add spice to the experience.  To me it's easily one of the 50 most interesting Scottish courses, in the same league as Tain, Golspie, Forfar, Lundin, Glenbervie, Lanark and even Elie.  In addition to the great golf there is a great and welcoming clubhouse for the apres golf.  If you get a chance to play it, do.

I've played the first four and they are all great fun. They do tend to get overshadowed by the other big links in the area ie. Turnberry, Troon, Prestwick and to an extent Western Gailes but still terrific golf. Haven't played any of them lately but from what I recall I would actually put West Kilbride last of the four, however if Rich rates that highly I clearly need to pay it another visit.

Largs - is there more than one course in Largs ? - if it's the Routenburn course then I've heard some good things about it. That's where Bob and Sam Torrance played there golf. The Prestwick St Cuthberts course is a fairly dull parkland if its the course I'm thinking of. Played it once in an outing and can't recall a redeeming feature however could be thinking of wrong course.

Dundonald there was an earlier course designed jointly by Tulloch and Fernie before WW1 from memory but the course was used for war purposes during WWII. The course never re-opened and the ground lay fallow until the Council sold it off for a golf course development at the turn of the century. The present course was designed by Kyle Phillips (not David McLay Kidd) and as far as I know there has been no substantive changes.

You are missing Rowallan Castle, which opened a couple of years ago, designed by Ross McMurray of EGD (Erm, Colin Montgomerie <cough>).
