Matthew,

I have commend you in keeping this trip still atop the board.

These pics are fantastic.  Great vantage points to reveal a lot of the contours plus the timing for the light is quite good.  Well done.

How did you figure out to play and do such good photos?  I can't seem to do both well.

Patrick,

Thanks for the compliment.

It's something I still haven't mastered.  Usually one or the other suffers.  The rule which I try to follow is play first, then shoot.  Taking pics usually means rushing around to keep up.  I love it when I can play a round and then go back out on a course to take some photos in the late afternoon light (or be playing by myself and can take the time to compose a photo).  Otherwise it's just a case of find a good spot, take a couple of shots, and hope for the best.

The afternoon at Lost Farm was good (until the cloud rolled in) because Colin Macqueen, Michael Taylor and myself were last out with nobody behind and the course to ourselves.  Plenty of time to play some extra shots around the greens and take a few pics.
By that stage fatigue had set in so the score suffered. - but I wasn't really caring about the score

I assume you wear the hat in the clubhouse when purchasing those drinks, amirite?

Correct Sven, works well at somewhere relaxed like Barnbougle, and believe me you do not want to 3 putt the last, also have the Trucker, the Hot and the Gran Prix Pooh hats, enough for 4 groups.

Post Boomerang drinks

After the trip I spent an extra day in Tassie - headed to Cradle Mountain - attached are a few pics if anyone planning a trip to Barnbougle feels inclined to see something other than just a golf course.

I know there has been a successful event since this one in NZ - are there plans underway for B3?

Brett,

There has been some chat offline about a get-together early in 2015 around cricket world cup time.

The poor response to Boomerang #2 in NZ put me off putting too much effort into anything last year, and got busy with work and never even thought of it for early '14.

Scott,

How about King Island at some stage.

Combined with NZ v Australia World Cup match at Eden Park a Titirangi, Tara Iti ( if open and possible ) double.

Melbourne / Mornington or Bellarine Peninsula's would be worthy of consideration ?

Happy to help ?

KP,

I agree Barwon/13th Beach and StAB/Nash would make great Boomerangs. I juat wonder whether we'd get a big turnout.

About time you came to see the Doon. Don't be a stranger!

Nothing at all, Mike, and in all likelihood that's where it will end up being.

Any chance you might reprise your role from Boomerang 1 and join us?

I'd be inclined to join in at Barnbougle, etc.  Just give me enough lead time so I can cut back other discretionary spending.  When I was in Tas I made it a point to stay overnite at Cradle Mtn. Too bad that was before there was even a sniff of Barnbougle.

The good thing about Barnbougle is that everyone has to travel there, everyone is staying at the facility and the facility is excellent.

Inevitably, such events are bookended with golf with the 'locals' for the visitors.

My fear is that an event held elsewhere would result in less 'visitors' and would also involve some locals commuting to the event.  As good as such an event would be, it wouldn't be as good as 'Barnbougle Revisited'.

I would be happy to help out if we ended up on the Bellarine.

But agree the best outcome for these events is the "Lock In" - everyone at the same place = fun.

Barnbougle is one of the finest places for this I've seen. Even KI in the future will require a commute of sorts.

Barnbougle could be the bi-annual home of the Boomerang?

If we're talking 2015 I might very well make the trip, especially if I can convince Mrs. Whit to make the journey with me. Two or three weeks in Oz would make for a great 41st wedding anniversary celebration... at least for me!  ;)
