Jerry

Just based on the 2D plan that looks like one helluva great routing in terms of flow and conservation of space and energy.  Does it work in 3D and today?  Please don't tell me it is NLE....

Thanks

Rich

It works well - I do not know if it would keep the pros scores down - but it is a joy to play and especially walk.

Nice course, still open (not in the greatest part of Dayton however) and very fun to walk.
Best Played So Far This Season:
Crystal Downs CC (MI), The Bridge (NY), Canterbury GC (OH), Lakota Links (CO), Montauk Downs (NY), Sedge Valley (WI)

Excellent track. Hosted the US Am qualifier for the Dayton area this year and held up well despite not being particularly long. Co-medalists at -4 qualified.

Great to see an old Ross plan.

Looking at the plan he has drawn a cross bunker or blocking bunkers on many of the fairways.

None of them appear to play a direct role into the strategic shot making for the normal or good player.
So presumably he included them mainly for visual effect.

Were these bunkers actually built or is this just a concept plan?

If it was a modern architect, you'd kill us for having three of the par-3's playing in the same direction (north?).  But that was likely the best use of the ground or Ross would not have done it that way.

Yes but at least they appear to be materially different lengths, hopefully calling for different clubs and/or shots.  Nothing is worse than lack of variety...

Interesting how the two nines are separate but each winds through itself. It seems a very smart routing.  Also, the lower (front) nine appears to take up about 1/3 less area than the upper (back) 9.  Does the course feel different front to back?
The trouble with modern equipment and distance—and I don't see anyone pointing this out—is that it robs from the player's experience. - Mickey Wright

I can post pics of the course if anyone would like to see them...I would love to see this course with a bunker renovation and of course, a few less trees.

Played Miami Valley about a half dozen times about 15 years ago. A local customer of mine was a member. Really nice track and my memory is of a huge cross bunker on 18 which didn't really come in play.

Par 3's:
#5 was originally 230 yards. Sometime in the 70's a new tee was constructed and a water hazard added. The new tee is about 150 yards.

#8 is not running the same direction as the other 3 - tough green to read and putt

#13 is short - but an exacting shot is required - tough green

#17 has the toughest green complex on the course

If you can play these 4 holes in 12 strokes you have gained a shot on the field.
