Wintonbury Hills Golf Course - Pete Dye/ Tim Liddy
« on: July 30, 2003, 04:09:05 PM »
Opening for play this fall in Connecticut, a new municipal golf course for Bloomfield; the town was originally named "Wintonbury" when incorporated from portions of the neighboring towns of WINdsor, farmingTON and simsBURY.

Par 70, with a variety of parkland, open meadows and rolling hills... players will need every shot in the bag. While playable by golfers of every level, the angles and risk/reward from the back tees will present the typical Pete Dye challenges.  Tim Liddy did a masterful job of making this routing work, overcoming high-voltage power lines, gas pipelines, and 88 acres of wetlands.

Only 7 years to get permitted and build (wetlands, army corps, DEP, and the myriad of local and state bureaucracies -- proved much harder to negotiate than a forced carry, long iron approach over water into the wind on a 5-par).

Congratulations to all of the citizens of Bloomfield who served as volunteers on committees and supported the project through 3 town referendums... the course is growing in nicely and will be ready for play soon.

Would this course happen to be 2.4 miles from a certain Dr.'s house?

Did Dye do the design for $1.00?

Or, Am I confused, again?

It's too bad this course won't be eligible for Golfweek's Top 100 Modern list because of Mr. Klein's involvement, because it sounds spectacular, perhaps even top 10 material.

Pete and Tim are two of the ASGCA's finest!
