Measuring Green Depth and Width

GCAers,

I am in the process of trying to properly measure green depth and width and am looking for any language from the USGA, R&A, or any credible source.

Recent restoration work has brought some putting surfaces back to their original (much larger) size.

Nick Faldo always says "Paces" when talking about green sizes. Are you looking for how to officially measure them from the collar?

Go find a local golf assn rater. You can borrow the book that will tell you how it is done for rating. Usually some parts of the green, those not capable of a hole location, are left off the measurements.

My bet is the USGA has it online in their Course rating guide.

Go to the center point in the fairway and draw a DIRECTION OF TRAVEL LINE thru the center of green.  Then locate where a perpendicular line would touch the front edge of given green and that would be the front of the green.  Locate where a perpendicular line would touch the furthest back edge of the green and you have the back and front.  One could thus have a narrow diagonal green that is no wider than 10 paces at any point yet it could be 45 paces deep.

 What is your email address ? I will send you a good working diagram to explain how to properly measure greens. The " BOX " method is the best .
