Current conditions - west coast of Ireland?
« on: May 16, 2013, 07:39:56 PM »
Word from family in Clare is that half of Ireland is under water due to an extremely wet winter and spring.  They're importing fodder from France and, most importantly, some/several/many? courses are currently closed.  I'm 45 days out from a trip which includes Dooks, Ballybunnion, Tralee, possibly Lahinch, Carne, Enniscrone and Rosses Point.  If any of you are on the ground near these would you please let me know the state of the courses?  Thanks in advance.

Jon,

I wouldnt get too worried, some courses are slightly behind than others due to the cold spring and low ground temperatures. The forecast for the end of this week and into next week the temperatures are going to be up and around 20 degrees. I would think in a month and a half when you are around the courses should be into there own at that stage. I have a friend who works in BallyBunion and he thinks the course is in good enough shape at the moment. Cheers.

Jon,

Why would you travel all that way with only the possibility of playing the finest course on the west coast of Ireland?  ???

Thanks David.

Chris, family is in Shannon.  Being that close we've played it before and will play it again - hopefully many times - but this trip is all about going farther afield.  Having said that we have one free day in the middle and if the weather is decent we'll probably try and make it up.

Joe,

You've nothing to worry about. I have spent the day walking a west coast links and conditions are dry and good.

It would only be the farmland courses that might be a little wet and hence closed.

Plus 45 days is a long time. Sounds like a nice agenda.
