It's a trend...

Golf course, airport, and cattle farm.  Small planes and skydivers, just two more hazards to create interest.
The trouble with modern equipment and distance—and I don't see anyone pointing this out—is that it robs from the player's experience. - Mickey Wright

Or at Mt. Air CC in NC.

There is a place where you are playing right along the runway (which is shoehorned onto the top of a mountain ridge in the middle of the course), and there are some warning lights that they light up if a plane is coming in to land to warn you not to play for a minute.  It is pretty cool when a plane comes in to land there while you are playing that part of the course.

The golfport, another course I never expected to see referenced on GCA. Not much of a course but a couple of decent holes and of course the runway in the middle of it all.

I master planned 9,000+ acres for a client whose primary business imperative was a 7,500 runway and airport in the middle of the fly-in community.  It was on top of a mountain, 2,500 feet up.  We had 27 holes, a short course, commercial, retail, and another part of the commuinty that was for vintage car racing that included a multi mile road course.  Many of the houses backed up directly to the track with garage access for eack trackside homeoner.  We had hunting, skeet/trap anf fishing clubs as well.  We also set aside over 2,000 acres for outdoor activities such as mountain biking, rock climbing, rapelling, hiking and orienteering.  I really hope to build it someday, but it doesn't look promising.

Here's an example of the airport/golf course combo: Mountain Air in Burnsville, NC. It's quite high up on top of that mountain.

Played Mountain Air a few years back, not really enough room for a golf course and some really extreme elevation changes, but it was an enjoyable boys golf weekend, where golf wasn't really the focus. Great development, huge houses, but runway is short so if the weather isn't good you often you have to land in town and drive to the course anyways.
Have clubs, will travel
