Seeking information on The Kittansett Club
« on: November 26, 2012, 09:46:08 AM »
Ladies and Gentlemen of GCA,

I am seeking any information people would like to share regarding The Kittansett Club.

Any information pertaining to the course, club history, staff, membership, and surrounding community would be much appreciated.

Happy Holidays,

Jonathan

Designed by Fred Hood, opened in 1922. I know nothing more.

Thought it was designed by William S. Flynn?

Kittansett Club
LOCATION Marion, Mass.
PARTNERS William Flynn and Frederic Hood
Set on Buzzards Bay near Cape Cod, Kittansett was built by owner Frederic Hood, who followed drawings sketched by William Flynn. While Flynn is responsible for classics like Shinnecock Hills and Cherry Hills, Hood never designed another course.

Kittansett is blessed with a fantastic setting on a private peninsula.  I did a comparison on the course last year if you search the old threads where I compared it to Eastward Ho! and Boston GC.  Kittansett has a stellar set of par 3's that can rival most in the country IMO.

Jonathan,

You can read an extensive coverage of The Kittansett Club in the "The Nature Faker.  William S. Flynn, Golf Architect" by Wayne Morrison and Tom Paul.  PM me if you would like to know how to reach Wayne to obtain a copy of the electronic book on DVD.

Kittansett is a wonderful layout that has some ocean exposure and some inland holes as well.  I wanna say the Gil Hanse did a rework about
4 or 5 years back.  Their 3rd hole is a cool oceanside par 3 that has an "islandie" feel to the green sight.  Enjoyed the course on a fall day all by myself some years back and remember being frustrated by a shifting 2-3 club wind.  Great stuff!
