Tells you some things about the club (Piedmont Driving Club), doesn't it.  Suspended rather than being booted (assuming "the letter" is accurate).  Sounds like a redneck operation to me.

This is the first time I've heard PDC called a "redneck operation".  But if the shoe fits...

OT, but I thought of you this morning when I heard that one measure FEMA uses to measure storm/hurricane intensity is called the "Waffle House" effect - they say that if they close the Waffle House, you are pretty much in for a big, big storm!

Personally, I know nothing about the PDC.  I'm not from Atlanta.  I've heard of it as private club there, but that's it.  However, when the club's website home page says:  " . . . [T]he Piedmont Driving Club has enjoyed a reputation as one of the most prestigious private clubs in the South," it makes you wonder if it really does have that reputation -- else why would they have to announce the reputation.  It also makes you wonder, in light of the reported member behavior and the "punishments" meted out whether, if it really has had that reputation, how long it will continue.  My supposition would be, "not long."

You might be correct.  In fact, it might already be over.


Just to be clear, I'm not arguing with you.  In fact, I'm saying you just might be spot on.  But PDC is a prestigious club in Atlanta...or at least has been in the past.  This is really a shocking event...at least to me.

PDC has been the most exclusive club in ATL for years HOWEVER...it did not have a golf course until a few years ago....

My school had their fundraising outing there a few years ago and I've played with a member after giving him a lesson...I'd have never guessed that something this egregious could happen there!  I would encourage the female caddie to press charges!  Pathetic really.

Good to know civilized clubs limit their extracurricular activities to pugilism (can't help but wonder if any of the participants went to Duke U.

The letter, in all its vivid detail, is admitted by its author to be complete hearsay.  Who would write all that stuff down and send a letter, rather than call a friend on the board and ask what was being done?  

maybe a better question is, who loves a mr. John Weitnauer enough to write this and sign his name to it?

I went to a wedding reception perhaps 25 years ago at PDC. It was a rather fine establishment.

Never heard of it.  Also, note that I said PDC sounded like a redneck operation.  I don't know enough about it to say that, in fact, it is one.

A very good question.  I suppose Mr. Weitnauer has an answer, but I doubt we will ever know.
