La Purisima for sale too

My two favorites publics in SoCal up for sale. Sign of the times obviously, as I have not played either in over two years...

I remember when they were before the County Board of Supervisors to get permission to build a hotel on the property. This was back in 2006.

La Purisima was in great shape when I played it back in 2008 and 2009 because it did not get a lot of play. Yes, it is a hard course for beginners but I loved it. I would be sad to see it plowed up and planted with grapes because there are lots of other hillts that could be planted with grapes. I doubt they could get 6.25 million for it but who knows. There could be some rich guy down in San Diego that wants to own a golf course.

I would think that the Indian Casino up the road in Buelton would be interested in buying it as a draw to the casino.
I love golf, the fightin irish, and beautiful women depending on the season and availability.

The potential sale/closure of La Purisima may be a "sign of the times" but I don't think that is the case with Rustic Canyon.  At RC the motive is more likely along the lines of an attempt to cash out.  Unlike La Purisma, RC is quite busy (maybe too busy) and the $10 mill price tag hardly indicates a fire sale.  (Note that to justify the $6.25 mil asking price at LP the course is being marketed as a potential winery.)

Golf history can be quite interesting if you just let your favorite legends go and allow the truth to take you where it will.

The Chumash Casino in Santa Ynez seems like a possible suitor. I suspect there's not a lot of extended stay guests at the Chumash so it's not clear if golf would be a draw. Maybe the beanie baby king, Ty Warner will come to the rescue. I believe he owns Sandpiper, Montecito Country Club, and Rancho San Marcos.

The problem is that gamblers would rather go play the RTJr course, http://www.rsm1804.com/, up the road than La Purisima because it is between Santa Barbara and the casino. La Purisima is 30 minutes west of the casino on the way to Lompoc. I would see the casino buying the RTJ course instead.
