Wild night in the sandhills

Out of control wildfire being whipped by high winds about 15 miles south of Holyoke, Colorado, and people injured by at least three tornadoes in/near North Platte and Valentine, Nebraska...

Hope all our contributors in those areas are safe and that the golf courses aren't copping any damage!

Well, my yard looks like crap.  When I called my chemical applicator asking what's up he quickly replied that the mild winter along with my yard being aerated resulted in the weeds thriving.  Not his fault in other words.

We are all going to have to pay for this mild winter.  I can't wait to blame a road failure on the mild winter.

Terry - you are right about the dry.  We are already irrigating, weeks early.

Small fire last night on hwy 97 at the Dismal River.  Just east of Sand Hills. Volunteer FD put the fire out around midninght.  Other than that, just wind around here.

Pretty much only grassland between the fire and BN, coupled with 50mph+ wind/recent dryness, pretty scary stuff.   I would imagine the farmers all had their irrigation systems on at full blast.  Luckily, they didn't get to see the effectiveness of a golf course irrigation system at extinguishing a wild fire.  Wouldn't have been the first time in the state that an irrigation system has aided in firefighting.
