I haven't noticed much commentary on here about Streamsong over this year and last.  Has it lost it's lustre and interest for us.


I made the run up there yesterday and I must say that the Blue still turns my crank (apart from the price).


Heavy topdressing of the fairways (?) was underway.  Otherwise in fine nick as the Brits would say.  Looks like Kyle et al have more maintenance in mind given the painted outlines around and near many greens.  Looks like they're trying to reclaim the edges of some greens and regrassing other areas around the greens.  Seems odd in prime season.  Or, maybe they're just mowing lines?


And, the gators keep growing.

I don't think so.  I was a bit worried about the Black having heard somewhat mixed reviews but I thought it was terrific when I played it for the first time a few weeks ago. 


The Blue seems better each time I play it. 


The Red seems as good as its ever been.

I think the resort continues to improve on all fronts. As the courses keep maturing they reveal more and more charm. The edges of the red and blue are now seamlessly blending with the setting and Black isn't far behind. I'm interested to see what the plans are for course number 4. I suspect it will not be a "championship" course, but something more suited for bonus play during stays. They do an awful lot right down there and I believe there is still much more in store.

Jay - they are regressing.  Hope it turns out well.  The grass seemed pretty good to me.

Not for mine after finally getting to them last year - after travelling from Australia.

However, its been 3 years since the Black opened and 8 years since Red + Blue -  so IMO the attention is going to wane somewhat with the passage of time.

I suspect the regrassing will only be of selected areas.  I can't imagine they need to regrass the whole thing after 8 years.

I think we move on to the next great thing pretty quickly. Or, we revert to the old classics.  I wonder if their magazine ratings will inevitably slip as we get further from their unique newness.


The Blue, which I've played most often, still ranks up there for me.

Thanks Eric - it's interesting that they are going to commit to a brand new strain of grass for the greens.  It seems somewhat risky ans to do it so soon after opening.  The greens were still good to my untrained eye just yesterday.  The site must be difficult agronomically.


The areas of the green are marked out in orange and all seem slightly larger than previously  There are also larger areas marked off in white off of the greens - I wonder if they plan to use the same grass there or if they are just regrassing with the same strain as currently used on the rest of the course.

Bermudagrass has a unique way of creeping in, evening with weekly edging. We replaced the outside edge of our greens 2 years after regrassing & has lost 2-3". We have a wire around the perimeter, so it was easy to trace back. On a 10+ year old course? Easily a foot could be lost.

I played there in Febrary 2018 and February 2019.  We have a five day trip based in Orlando and we went down to Streamsong for one day on each of these two trips.  The quality of the golf is very high but my group did not find the experience particularly enjoyable.  In 2019 despite requesting single bag caddies we were forced to have double-bag caddies as they said that they don't have enough caddies to do single bags.  This is a really poor deal for the player as the double bag fee is $90/player vs $100/player for a single bag fee.  The quality of service that you get is way worse with a double bagger.  In addition, the caddies that we got were jerks.  The food was very expensive at the resort as well and some of the food was not good quality.  The all in cost for a day where you play 36 holes plus some food was very high - over $700.  And the weather was very hot and there is not much shelter from the sun.  Our group is used to walking 36 holes, we do it at other courses on a regular basis, but on hot days with no shade at Streamsong it was a challenge.


The consequence is that for our 2020 trip we decided not to go back to Streamsong.
