What exactly is a high capper? Depending on how much I practice I am playing off 12 to 8. Does that qualify as high capper? The daily tees are 6675 yards, right?

No, you are far from a high capper.  I am talking about 20+ guys.

Anthony, You quit after nine????? did you have a heart attack? Did the martians attack the tenth tee? Was a monsoon 2 hours in with 6 to go and you did not have a rainsuit on a 50 degree day.?

 Back pain.I was beat up.

I'm thinking Anthony is on to something.  I'm guessing for a player like me who vascillates from a mid-high capper to a high capper depending on the year, I would probably get more enjoyment out of walking a course like RCD.  I've seen plenty of course reviews, and even the pictures alone do a great job at conveying just how brutal it is.

I'm half convinced RCD is the Pine Valley of Europe.

Anthony fair enough. An injury is an injury. Kalen RCD is not that tough. It is a like most links courses.  You need to hit it straight on. Guys who hit is left and right have long days. i have not climbed a dune yet and felt good about the experience. RCD is just a great great course and certainly not unfair or that tough. It is harder to play than the bandon courses. But so are most of the better links courses the UK.

One thing - I have heard how incredibly tough Bethpage Black and Kiawah Island are. I was scared. I had the most fantastic day on both the courses. So much fun. And the round at BB is still my best day on the golf course ever.
Certainly these are not everyday type of courses but definitely not that tough.

You'll be just fine at RCD.

Kalen RCD is not that tough.

Tiger,I respectfully disagree.RCD is a bitch.

I got to play RCD right around the British several years ago and ended up playing a few holes with a couple of PGAT pros. Each had played RCD before, one of them over 20 times. Each said it was, hands down, the hardest golf course they'd ever played--WFW,Oakmont,PVGC included.

BTW--each of these guys was playing from a forward (6700?) set of markers. They looked at me like I was crazy when I asked why they didn't play back.

To me it looks like sometimes "toughness" has a lot to do with people's inability to shoot the scores they think they should. For example someone who plays off 10 and is used to shoot in the low 80s at his some course comes to a place like RCD or BB and shoots 95. He's humbled and he's frustrated.
It all comes down to one's attitude  - if you are concerned about your score playing  a  course you are not familiar with which presents atypical conditions then it can really be gruelling. On the other hand you can just enjoy the experience, the architechture and the setting. this is why I almost never have a bad day on a good golf course.  ;)

Ivan,

It's not simply a matter of trying to shoot a medal score.  If the winds up the Bandon courses can wreak havoc on your card as well.  The difference is at Bandon even in a gale one can often finish the round with the ball he started with.

... Kalen RCD is not that tough. ...

Trust me Tiger. For Kalen it is that tough. This is a guy that has to have off course walkers find his tee shots in a GRUDGE MATCH.

I have bad news for him. There will be no off course walkers at the next GRUDGE MATCH venue, Sagebrush.
