Late model Town Car rollin' up I-95 early Febuary
« on: January 11, 2012, 01:34:00 AM »
And I believe it is beige.
Yes, our Subaru just died and we were not expecting or budgeting for this. My wife will get my lovely Accord. And I am flying down to Sarasota to pick up the late(ish) model Town Car the father in law has kindly donated.
I must say I am quite looking forward to being officially stripped of any last threads of hipness...

So I'm driving up !-95 and I figure I'll need a couple of stops before DC. From there I can get home in a day. So I'll bring my Sunday bag. Worst case scenario I can always go back to the excellent motel I know near Tobacco Rd, but I wouldn't mind seeing a couple of courses I haven't seen before... Any suggestions? Cheap and fantastic and near !-95. Savannah? N Carolina?

Happy New Year, GCA!

Lloyd,

Schedule permitting, I would be happy to host you in Savannah on your way north.  Just send me a PM and we can discuss the specifics.

Sorry, couldn't resist:

He drove his father-in-law's car, 'twas a Lincoln Town
I was most impressed by his casual swing
I was most impressed
Inside Elie clubhouse colored deepest blue
I suppose we found some kind of happiness
To fill the emptiness
We were simply golfing precious time
Hiding from the cruelest summer sky
He took his father-in-law's car to get to the golf course
Heaven knows that i, I can sympathize
Oh I can sympathize
For we were never close if the truth were told
All we ever shared was a taste in golf courses
Oh we were never close
We were simply losing 5 and 4
Underneath the cruelest Fifeshire sun
We were simply golfing precious time
We were simply golfing precious time
We were simply golfing precious time

Ah, happy, halcyon days of 'snakes...
v best,
the F.
The White River runs dark through the heart of the Town,
Washed the people coal-black from the hole in the ground.

Many people have Lincoln town cars.  Does yours have your photo on top?

You can bring your Staff bag, the trunk of a Town Car is big enough to sleep a family of four ...

Lloyd- Southern Pines was more than reasonable pricewise, even if you're not an Elk. The routing and movement made for a round full of grins.

Lincoln Town Car? That thing should handle awesome in the Berkshires during the middle of February....  :)

If only this had happened a month ago, Lloyd, I would been happy to donate my Audi A4 Quattro to your cause... now you'll just have to listen to NPR to enjoy the benefits.

Speaking of which, without a Subaru, you risk losing your female fan-base in Vermont pretty quickly.

Compa'

From a guy who drives an Elantra, I'll take the LTC 10 days out of 9.

If you haven't seen Royal New Kent, you should play it to gain an appreciation of Stranz's other works.

2 stops?

Day 1 Leave 7 am sarasota (drive 5 1/2 hours), play Brunswick CC in the afternoon.

Day 2  play an early round at the historic 9 holer on Jekyl, drive to Aiken SC (3 3/4 hours)
Play Aiken GC in the afternoon, stay Aiken Hotel

Day 3 In the morning play Palmetto, drive to DC or wherever, stay  overnight-drive home

Turn around, drive back, and repeat.... ;D ;D

Aiken  is less than a 2 hour total detour as you can pick up 95 again at Florence and you get 4 classic(and cheap) courses in a region devoid of such.

In early february, you'd not want to count on playable weather any farther north than that, and you still could be fighting frost at Palmetto in the morning.

If you have time, and the weather is particularly good. you might want to stop and donate a few dollars to Jamey Bryan at Camden ;), which is virtually on the way ;D

Many thanks, gentlemen.
After all that the car will indeed be rollin' but I will not be in it.
Her indoors is making the trip and spending a little time with her dad.
I am inspired to do something like this early next year, for no good reason other than to escape the heinous New England Winter...
Until then, over.

I'll have to go over my bootlegged copies of Minder, but if memory serves me correctly, Lloyd. Arthur Daley was not a golfer.

Nice to see you are still walkin around on that knee. The Aiken Golf Club was $28 with a cart on lady's day when I mentioned I was a GCA'er. Really fun spot to pair with Palmetto
