One way in - One way out

While many of Scotland's great golf courses are intimately connected to their adjacent railway lines, this one wouldn't even EXIST without it!
Or at least, without this magnificent edifice which allows access to the place.

I love MAD entrances to golf courses. This one you have to walk carrying your clubs a few hundred yards over this bridge, down a long flight of steps and another couple of hundred yards walk through some allotments. A true pilgrimage!!!

yay!

MGB: Here in the US, this course would never make it.  Need to be able to park next to the clubhouse so the bag person can grab the clubs out of the trunk and put them on the cart or get them q'ed up for the caddy.

The to and fro might almost be too much exercise for some of our customers.

Yep, I know this one.  How on earth do the Powakaddy brigade cope with it?

FBD,

Would that be the bridge to King James VI GC in Perth? If so I've been through Perth plenty of times but never had a chance to play it, though having heard about the interesting entrance I'd like to one day. What is the course itself like?

Cheers,

James

James/Robin,
indeed this is the KJ IV GC (GREAT NAME!) in Perth. Set on an island in the middle of the River Tay, it is prone to flooding and will probably be lost in one of these high tide/heavy rainfall events one of these days.
The Course (laid out by OTM - yes, Melvyn THAT useless architect) is pretty flat, over-treed and mostly quite featureless. Having said that, it is a unique experience and one which many GCAer would enjoy - if only for the novelty value alone!!!
There's a couple of really good holes but too many ho-hummers. Check out the bunkering style which is THE MOST consistent I've ever seen anywhere!!!

The Course WAS extremely wet due to the Great Scottish Monsoon of 2011...

Good fun though.

Ah,
I should have guessed.  So Dundee's church spire skyline starts all the way up the river in Perth.

Now. Marty, did you take your pink clad golfing partner for lunch at Cafe Tahbou in Perth after the round?

Cheers Colin

That is indeed Frau FBD, Bruce! (avec hateful Powakaddy too!)
Col,
actually we were playing with a couple of friends from Kirkcaldy so ended the evening out with them at the marvellous and marvellously-named 'Annapurna Gurkha' restaurant for some FINE Nepalese food!!!
Ah, Scotland - gotta love it.
best,
F.

Nepalese food...new one on me...Indian - yes, Afgan- yes, Thai-yes , Nepalese - NO

What would the typical Nepalese dinner consist of?

Yum!
Exquisite little dumplings called Momo filled with Spiced Lamb or Chicken with a spicy tomato-ey dip
then
Poleko Bhale Khukura (Herby marinated chicken in lentil-y spiced sauce) with Fresh Naan and Pilau rice
all accompanied by copious quantities of:
GURKHA PREMIUM LAGER!!!!!
Glorious!
cheers,
a slightly fatter FBD.
