PGA Tour site En-Joie GC, Endicott, NY, flooded

En-Joie is awash in flood water and closed for the year:

I played there while in college at nearby SUNY-Binghamton. It was also the site of my first PGA Tour caddie loop, 1976 B.C. Open, for Dick Rhyan. He finished about 55th or so and won $452, paid me $230 for the time I was with him (from the preceding Wednesday, as I Monday spot-qualified him at IBM CC first!).

En-Joie is a fun, pleasant muni that's perilously close to the Susquehanna River, as the photo accompanying the story shows.

Sad to see.

I wish the course and surrounding areas all the best in recovery.

Links at Hiawatha has also been decimated. I drove through Binghamton on my way home from Corning/Elmira on Friday and stopped to check out the damage to Hiawatha. Quite frankly, it's like nothing I have ever seen before, or care to see again. To those of you who are familiar with the course, the 17th hole which is a very nice par three is nothing but one huge lake. There is no sign of a tee or a green. The same with the downhill par four fourteenth, one huge lake from about 100 yards short of the green right through the green. I spoke with one of the original investors and he said they hope to get back open by next year some time. Just very sad.

Wow - knew it would be bad, but those are really worse case scenarios.

I believe both flooded in 200 & 2006 and now 2011 - that is 3 hundred year floods in 11 years!!

Same situation at Quechee in VT., much of the Lakeland course was lost.

The Windham CC in Windham NY (Catskills) lost 4 holes and every piece of equipment they had washed away along with the maintenance barn. As of one week ago they had not found any of it.

That's really sad to see...again.

Growing up it was always a thrill when my dad would drive us the 1.5 hours up 81 to play the same course the "pros played", and at great, affordable rates no less.

It's a bit of a hodge-podge from a design standpoint, but it's a community treasure nonetheless.

That is awfull news about Windham CC, I was going to try to play there earlier this year, but did not fit it in.

I guess I will not be playing it anytime soon!

Chris,
The back nine appears to be open. Here's something from the club.

edit: The Hanah GC in Margaretville lost 6 holes, Oneonta a couple. Stamford GC escaped without any damage. I heard the Delhi course had a few holes shut down, but I don't know if they were lost or just closed for repairs.

I am glad to hear that Stamford did not suffer any damage that is another one I had down to play, but I chose to play Van Kleek's old IBM Country Club instead.

Thanks,
Chris
